This is War

This is War

When our news source was small and local, the average American had reliable news. Today, the news sources are all multi-billion dollar corporations and the news reporters are multi-millionaires. Does the average American still get reliable news? Of course not. That is why you never hear our current financial disasters framed in the true or correct context. Class War.

We’ve discussed the class war in other posts, here and here.

Millionaire news reporters certainly don’t want to report on increasing taxes on the stinking rich as something good for America even though it was part of what made America fair, just, and strong for most of the 20th century. Now these reporters and news corporations try their hardest to paint the returning to reasonable and fair taxes as something that will destroy America’s economy, the whole while avoiding the facts that the reduction in their taxes since the Reagan era is a major part of what’s destroying America, today.

As Warren Buffet has said, there is a class war going on and my class is winning.

That’s primarily why you are reading reports about how the economy is rebounding but the average American worker is working longer and harder for less. The economy is not getting better for the average American, but it is certainly getting better for America’s corrupt corporate news entities so they will gladly, and ignorantly report that the economy is getting better. Without any reasonable or reliable news sources saying anything to the contrary, we’re left believing that it must be getting better for everyone else but us.

It’s not!

Let’s take a quick look at the outcomes of the major salvos in this class war.

After the great depression of the 30s, top tax rates on the insanely wealthy were raised to 92%. This provided many benefits including reducing the undue influence the wealthy have on our government and encouraged those benefiting the most from our country to reinvest the most.

For the next 30 years, the rich won every battle with hole after hole being poked in our tax laws allowing them to avoid paying their fair share. We can thank the undue influence in our government to the strength of wealth.

The top tax rates on those earning over $3 Million was 92% for only that income over the $3M back in the days before JFK. Kennedy then reduced the top marginal tax rate into the 70% range and closed up most of the loop holes Congress had put in the tax codes for the benefit of their millionaire friends and contributors. This was actually a tax increase as Kennedy repeatedly explained.  This was a small step back to the way things were before JFK, but not a return to the fiscally sound policies put onto place after the depression.

Then, along comes Reagan and he drops the billionaire tax rate repeatedly down to the 30% range. Then Bush comes along and drops the billionaire tax rate down to 25% and only 15% for dividend income.

Also during this time, the poor misguided American public listened to the billionaires tell us how scary the “death tax” is that we started believing them. It’s not a death tax, the tax for death is death. The inheritance tax is paid by those inheriting the billions and billions of dollars. This tax was put in place to prevent aristocracies from getting strong and powerful enough that they could poison our government.

Well, guess what. Here we are today with the rich and powerful controlling almost all of our press and all of our government.

All the safeguards we put into place after the last great disaster have all been eroded by our politicians. It’s time for us to get back to where we were after the last great depression. Restore fair and reasonable taxes. 90% is not an unreasonable tax over $3 Billion and will only help the economy.

The enemy isn’t the other political party; it’s the rich and powerful; it’s a class war, and guess, what, we’re losing big time.

Single Payer Health Care

The number of lies coming out of the insurance industry’s full court press against health care reform is mind boggling. After hearing one or two of the really obvious lies, you would think that the average American would just tune them out. But, no, it appears that with each new outlandish lie, they mange to snare a small percentage of unwary. Given enough lies, they’ll have everyone convinced, at this rate.

You hear about how bad all the rest of the world’s health care is and how wonderful ours is. However, these lies fail to point out that America has the worst infant mortality rate, one of the shortest life spans, in other words, the worst medical in the modern world. Since it’s by far the worst, you would think that we must pay the lowest in the world, but, again, no, we pay almost double what the next highest system pays and triple what most countries pay.

You hear how everyone in the other countries just hates their socialized medicine and would love nothing more than to change back to America’s Pay-or-Die system. But, no, it’s just another lie. No system is great and everyone will admit that their system has problems, but none of the other countries want to give up their health care and go back to corporate run health care.

In fact, America currently runs two socialized medical system and does it quite well. The VA is true socialized medicine where the hospitals and doctors are run by our government. This system has the highest percent of satisfied customers. Second is Medicare. Again, one of the most well run systems in America. This is the same as single-payer health care. Sure, it could be fixed. First we have to fix the mess that the Republicans made of it over the past eight years. But, it has run quite successfully for decades.

Way down the list of satisfied customers is the commercial pay-or-die systems. People may hate it but they’re afraid to changes after hearing all the lies coming from the insurance industry. Ask anyone who has filed a claim just to find that they’re disqualified because of some trumped up “pre existing condition” if they love their health coverage.

The vast majority of personal bankrupsies in America are due to health disasters, and more than half of all those people were actually covered by insurance, or at least they thought they were. Do you think you are? Ask them how much they love their health care system. Now ask someone who has never needed to use their insurance. They’re probably pretty happy with it because they’re still under the mistaken impression that they’re actually covered. More lies.

Listen to the response from this senator. It is chilling that there are people running our government that really feel this way.

Watch it here.

His answer is that we should not join together to help each other, but when we’re in dire need, we should go around and beg for help from our neighbors. How can such an unfeeling monster really be a representative of our great society? We have been trying the “Greed is Great” garbage since Reagan and it is so obviously failing that our society is crumbling around us, but we still refuse to admit that it’s the “Me Society” mentality that is destroying America. Coburn is such a great example of all that is wrong.

This is truly amazing. I would say unbelievable but, well, it’s totally believable.

In our poll, 72% of self-identified FOX News viewers believe the health-care plan will give coverage to illegal immigrants, 79% of them say it will lead to a government takeover, 69% think that it will use taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions, and 75% believe that it will allow the government to make decisions about when to stop providing care for the elderly.

Do these viewers realize they’re being lied to? How could they not know? They must just play along. More examples of the dumbing down of America.

It’s time to get serious about national health care. A couple thoughts:

  1. Just say NO to co-ops. They can never compete with national insurance agencies. Without the competition, there’s no need for the insurance agencies to improve or to stop their killing for profit.
  2. Allow everyone to buy into Medicare if they want to. Yes, it’s already run by the government and run with a 3% overhead. United Health just paid their CEO, Dollar Bill McGuire, $1.7 Billion. Can’t beat that for waste. How many people had to die to pay for that?
  3. Call your representatives and the White House today and call often.

United We Stand

If you are anything like me, you are more than a little upset at the gradual deterioration of the American standard of living. I have a small fraction of spendable income that I used to have just 10 years ago, not to mention 20 years ago. We’re seeing our income dropping and our expenses, especially our medical expenses, skyrocketing.

If things continue like this, the average American will be bankrupt, even without suffering a major illness for which he thought he was insured.

The disparity between the rich and the rest of America has grown to levels not seen since the robber-baron era, bringing the last Great Depression. Last check, the 90% not at the top have to share only 50% of the country’s wealth and just 10% gets all the rest. We’re all just becoming serfs for our lords.

Our government appears to be less and less capable of performing the simplest of tasks. Our roads are nothing but pot holes, our highway taxes used to pay for our highways that are now becoming toll roads. When do we get our tax dollars back so we can feed the blood sucking toll booths?

The demand for gas continues to fall but the price keeps going up. Why aren’t people going to jail for this crime?

The list gets longer every day. And, Americans are getting fed up. But, fed up with what? So few people have the slightest clue what is causing this mess so they don’t know what to attack. One media says it’s the stinking Liberal Commies, another says it’s the illegal aliens, and a third says it’s our government’s fault.

Nobody is given the real reason, today.

Don’t think this is by accident. Those responsible for our current mess are getting rich off of the mess and are doing everything they can to prevent us from concentrating on the problem long enough to fix it. There’s always something new to get the people excited about. “Obama’s Death Squads” is the latest diversion. These culprits are experts at keeping us distracted from the real problem that we can’t focus our energies on fixing it.

Americans are getting fed up! But will we find the right place to focus our anger in time to fix it?

Do you know why the rich keep getting richer while you and I keep getting poorer and poorer? Hint: It’s not the death squads. It’s the multi-billion dollar corporations and their owners who are sucking us dry and distracting us from seeing it.

America’s health care is insured by only 7 corporations, all colluding against us and against our government. That’s not enough, but this industry is now exempt from anti-trust laws, if anyone was enforcing them, anyway. America spends over $2.5 trillion on health care every year, and these insurance industry leaches are skimming off bigger and bigger sums while leaving us, their insured, to die, uninsured due to pre-existing conditions. How many times to you hear about that on your TV news? How many times do you hear about the effects of disparity of incomes in America on your news channel? How many times do you hear about your neighbors losing their health insurance on your network news?

Never?

Well, face it, the billionaires have been quite successful at keeping you excited about anything but the real cause of our problem. It’s THEM!

United we Stand!

The ultra-rich have such a strangle hold on our government that it will take the Republican and Democratic parties coming together to clean out this corruption. As long as they have us fighting against each other, we can never fight against the real problem. And, they have done such a great job of getting us to blame each other rather than blaming the real villains. The problem isn’t each other, it’s the Corporate Elite and their Corrupt Corporate Media.

Fair and Balanced

Fair and Balanced

This one is no surprise to most of our readers, but there’s always a few that don’t realize just how corrupt Fox News really is. In the health debate, Fox has given air time to six times more anti-health care reformers than supporters. That’s not even close. How blatant? How can anyone stand to watch this channel when they know it’s distorting reality? Well, of course that was a rhetorical question. I’ll tell you.

Because they don’t know any better.

If you watch Fox news you believe that Americans are against health care reform, six to one. They so quickly forget that last November, America voted resoundingly for health care reform. This, my friends, is what’s called “the dumbing down of America”.

Would you think it was a conspiracy theory if someone were to tell you that the boards of directors for almost all America’s major corporate (corrupt) media contain the same people on the boards of directors for the medical industry? Check it out. You’d be surprised.

Maybe that’s why the media isn’t doing their job in presenting a fair and balanced discussion of health care reform. You don’t even hear anyone talking about single-payer health care, the one approach that would benefit America the most.

Fair and Balanced? Unplug the corporate media. Turn them off and start watching Bernie Sanders on YouTube.

This is great news. For anyone who questions the quality or integrity of today’s medai, you can see “America’s Senator” uncensored. Not a Republican and not a Democrat, and best of all, not CORPORATE CORRUPTED MEDIA.

I’ll be watching him on Mondays. You should to.

… and Now This from MoveOn

This should worry every single patriotic American. We are seeing the demise of the Democracy that our fathers and grandfathers built for us. What are we leaving for our children and their children?
=======================
Dear MoveOn member,

It’s getting ugly out there.

All across the country, right-wing extremists are disrupting congressional town-hall meetings with venomous attacks on President Obama’s plans for health care and clean energy.

  • Last night in Tampa, Florida, a town hall meeting erupted into violence, with the police being called to break up fist fights and shoving matches.1
  • A Texas Democrat was shouted down by right-wing hecklers, many of whom admitted they didn’t even live in his district.2
  • One North Carolina representative announced he wouldn’t be holding any town-hall meetings after his office began receiving death threats.3
  • And in Maryland, protesters hung a Democratic congressman in effigy to oppose health-care reform.4

We’ve got a plan to fight back against these radical right-wingers. We’ve hired skilled grassroots organizers who are working with thousands of local volunteers to show Congress that ordinary Americans continue to support President Obama’s agenda for change. And we’re building new online tools to track events across the country and make sure MoveOn members turn out at each one.

But we need to scale up our efforts quickly to make sure this plan works. To really swing into action during this month’s congressional recess, we need to raise at least $250,000 immediately. Can you chip in $75 to support our work?

https://pol.moveon.org/donate/august.html

If the shouts of the right-wing mobs are the only voices our senators and representatives hear over the recess, we’ll have a hard time passing health care and clean energy legislation.

That’s why we’re launching our Heat Up Congress campaign so quickly to fight back, using new technology to implement rapid response town hall turnout, organizing personal phone calls from small business leaders and donors to their representatives, running new ads, and activating an energized network of on-the-ground organizers and volunteers.

This month could decide the future of health care and clean energy in America—and we’re already one week in. If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, now’s the time to get involved. Talk to your neighbors, go to a town hall meeting—and today, please chip in $75 to support our work:

Thanks for all you do.

Have the Brown Shirts Come to America?

This from the Democratic Party:

David –

Rep. Kratovil hanged in effigy There’s been a lot of media coverage about organized mobs intimidating lawmakers, disrupting town halls, and silencing real discussion about the need for real health insurance reform.

The truth is, it’s a sham. These “grassroots protests” are being organized and largely paid for by Washington special interests and insurance companies who are desperate to block reform. They’re trying to use lies and fear to break the President and his agenda for change.

Health insurance reform is about our lives, our jobs, and our families — we can’t let distortions and intimidation get in the way. We need to expose these outrageous tactics, and we’re counting on you to help. Can you read these “5 facts about the anti-reform mobs,” then pass them along to your friends and family?

5 facts about the anti-reform mobs

    1. These disruptions are being funded and organized by out-of-district special-interest groups and insurance companies who fear that health insurance reform could help Americans, but hurt their bottom line. A group run by the same folks who made the “Swiftboat” ads against John Kerry is compiling a list of congressional events in August to disrupt. An insurance company coalition has stationed employees in 30 states to track where local lawmakers hold town-hall meetings.

    2. People are scared because they are being fed frightening lies. These crowds are being riled up by anti-reform lies being spread by industry front groups that invent smears to tarnish the President’s plan and scare voters. But as the President has repeatedly said, health insurance reform will create more health care choices for the American people, not reduce them. If you like your insurance or your doctor, you can keep them, and there is no “government takeover” in any part of any plan supported by the President or Congress.

    3. Their actions are getting more extreme. Texas protesters brought signs displaying a tombstone for Rep. Lloyd Doggett and using the “SS” symbol to compare President Obama’s policies to Nazism. Maryland Rep. Frank Kratovil was hanged in effigy outside his district office. Rep. Tim Bishop of New York had to be escorted to his car by police after an angry few disrupted his town hall meeting — and more examples like this come in every day. And they have gone beyond just trying to derail the President’s health insurance reform plans, they are trying to “break” the President himself and ruin his Presidency.

    4. Their goal is to disrupt and shut down legitimate conversation. Protesters have routinely shouted down representatives trying to engage in constructive dialogue with voters, and done everything they can to intimidate and silence regular people who just want more information. One attack group has even published a manual instructing protesters to “stand up and shout” and try to “rattle” lawmakers to prevent them from talking peacefully with their constituents.

    5. Republican leadership is irresponsibly cheering on the thuggish crowds. Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner issued a statement applauding and promoting a video of the disruptions and looking forward to “a long, hot August for Democrats in Congress.”

It’s time to expose this charade, before it gets more dangerous. Please send these facts to everyone you know. You can also post them on your website, blog, or Facebook page.

Now, more than ever, we need to stand strong together and defend the truth.

Thanks,

Jen
