Technical Difficulties and FUD

Technical Difficulties and FUD
David Schlecht

Our apologies for the sporadic availability, recently. We finally finished up the last of our fixes and we are back up to full speed. During the past two days we’ve been experiencing problems with our mail service as well. Of course, if disaster is to strike a web site, you can count on it happening at the most inopportune time, such as Thanksgiving weekend.

But, alas, we’re back.

The process of diagnosing and fixing the problems was horribly telling of our “winter of discontent.”

As it is with most Internet facing computers, when things break, the first thought is to check for malicious break-ins. It wasn’t that long ago when malicious attacks were the last things suspected, even on computers. But, today, we suspect crime before all else.

What’s wrong with this picture?

Is this any way to view life? What an awful place this world has become if we suspect evil before all else.

It doesn’t help that the media is constantly cultivating Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. FUD sells advertising space.

How do we get America and the Internet back to being a place we’re safe strolling through?

By the way, ours was a hardware problem.

  1. I’m glad you’re back. I didn’t notice you were down. You can chalk that up to quick response time over the holiday.

  2. We need two Internets. One for the money hungry, greedy, capitalists. The other would be the original Internet, a community of people coming together for common ends. That way the scammers (capitalists) won’t be affecting me or other visitors to this site.

  3. I agree with you … the media gives out huge doses of fear, uncertainty and doubt on a daily basis. It’s annoying, especially when it’s so obvious that they’re doing it.

It’s my belief that as viewers we hold a lot of power, since advertising is what makes the media world go round. I’ve written networks before, and have also refused to watch certain programming before. If we all do that, we can have an impact. It just takes getting up off our duffs and putting in the effort. 🙂

Glad to see you’ve fixed your problems!
