Republicans Block Unemployment Vote Again

by
Matthew

The Republican party wants so badly for the poor to just die, that they are even preventing the unemployment bill from coming up for a simple vote.

If they weren’t blocking Democracy, the vote would likely pass and the poor and unemployed would be spared more hardship.

But, no, they don’t even want it to come up for a vote so they blocked even the hopes of voting on it. The Republicans filibustered the unemployment bill, again.

What kind of a person would obstruct Democracy just so more poor people would starve to death?

Only a Republican.

Enough Trickle Down

How’s that whole trickle down economics working for you?

Do you realize we’ve been in Reganomics for over 30 years now and it’s tearing this country apart.

It’s time we quit with the lies of Trickle Down economics, or Voodoo economics as the Republicans used to call it.

It’s time to roll back the Reagan tax cuts and start rebuilding our middle class. It’s time to end the trade agreements and go back to the tariffs that worked for 200 years.

Check out Thom Hartmann’s article on the failed state of Reaganomics.

Those Lazy Poor People

I’m sure you’ve noticed by now how some people always blame the victim. It’s the girl’s fault for getting raped, it’s the dress, it’s the victims fault who live in repressive countries, it’s the poor’s fault for being poor and lazy.

Let’s evaluate that last one.

If lack of ambition was the only cause or even the primary cause for poverty, then only one or maybe a handful of people would have any money because they have more ambition than everyone else.

Well this obviously isn’t the case, now, is it? There are lots of people with ambition who die poor and lots of lazy rich people. One would have to be purposely blind to not see that around them every day.

If you take a moment to think through the stories you’re told, you can see where the logic breaks down. And, once you realize you’ve been fed a crock of baloney, you probably end up with at least these two questions:

  1. Well, then, what is the real cause of poverty?
  2. Why are people so ignorant to not see through the illogical statements, if I can? They must be able to see that what they are saying is wrong. And, if they’re saying things they know are wrong, why are they doing it? What are they getting from this deceit?

I think we all know what the lazy rich are getting by us fighting among ourselves. We’re not fixing the problem with the rich. The rich are the news commentators, they are the news media.

And for the first question, take a quick stroll through this article on the poor to get a good idea on what is making people poor.

I know, I know, I can hear it already by those who refuse to admit to themselves that they were wrong, “but I know a lazy poor person. It must be true.”

Well, do you have any idea how hard it is to live a life in poverty? There is stress every minute of every day wondering if and how you’re going to make ends meet. You’re spending every minute of the day working for poverty wages because you don’t get paid enough to just work 60 hours like the lazy rich might do.

If you’re so poor that you’ve lost your home and your family and don’t even have a car with gas in it to live in anymore, you spend every minute of your life trying to keep from losing the few possession you still have and you’re working to figure out how you’re going to get enough food so you don’t starve, and you’re trying to figure out where you’re going to spend the night without freezing to death.

Do rich people work this hard? Of course not.

So, next time you hear someone say or even imply that the poor are lazy, it might be time to set them straight.

Suicide Rates

I ran across this (albeit old) article in the BBC the other day and just had to share it.

According to an article in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, suicide rates go up measurably when a country is governed by Republicans (conservatives).

Yes, indeed, the Republican party is the party of Jesus. Starve the poor.

Net Neutrality – One of the Most Important Issues of our Day

Net Neutrality – One of the Most Important Issues of our Day

by Matt

One of the most important issues of our day and you can bet your worthless news media has said almost nothing about it, if anything at all.

The FCC decided the Internet is like TV and the providers can decide what you get to do on the Internet, they get to charge you extra for things they don’t want you to see, they can charge the providers of the information more or refuse to allow them into your network at all.

This is almost exactly like the communist country of China.

Who at the FCC would make such a destructive decision? Powell, the man who is now a big-shot K-street lobbyist for the FCC.

He screws American Internet users and gets a cushy job as a lobbyist. He should be in prison, in my opinion.

But yesterday, the DC Court decided that the FCC already decided that and so that is that, even if it’s an unsound position by the FCC.

Next it will go to the Corporatists in the Supreme Court and you know they will decide for the corporations and against America like they always do. Always. Ever heard of the Citizens United case? The Republicans in the Supreme Court screwed America in favor of the corporations on that one and we may never get illegal money out of our political system because of it. So you already know how these corporatists will decide when this case comes to them.

The only chance we have is to lobby the FCC to correct their faulty decision and classify Internet providers as common carriers, not content providers.

Tell the FCC to protect the Internet and restore Net Neutrality.

Join one of the many organization trying to fix this before it’s too late. If you can’t find one, let me suggest DemandProgress or The White House.

If you’re a Republican, are you seeing what your party is doing? I realize it’s hard to accept the fact that you made a mistake, but just the fact that you’re reading this shows that you are beginning to see. Good for you. Now, get active and help fix this before our Internet becomes just like China’s.

Obama’s TPP Problems

Obama’s TPP Problems
by Matt

Obama has gotten himself into a pickle, hoping to sneak through the TPP trade agreement. However, no matter how bad the prior agreements have been, this one has many poison pill requirements that many people are openly opposing the agreement.

If this agreement goes through, it will be a black mark on Obama’s legacy and has the potential to overshadow any good that he is able to walk away with as his eight years as president.

The congress just introduced Fast Track authority for Obama to slam this through without discussion and without exposing the bill to the public. Fortunately the public already has a good handle on what is in the bill and what harm it can do to America.

Hey, Obama, wash your hands of the TPP. It’ll only burn you and if, by some chance it passes, it’ll burn America.

Let’s all keep active on this issue and put it in its grave. A good place to go to join the TPP opposition is the PDAmerica group.

No More Wal-Marts

No More Wal-Marts
by Matt

Wal-Mart is planning to open a new store in Reno/Sparks, Nevada. This is wrong and we must stop it.

Start by visiting the website, Not Another Sparks Walmarts, and getting the low down.

But even if you don’t care what goes on in Nevada, you can still join the cause. America does not need any more Walmarts. They are not good for America and not good for American workers. Americans tax payers pick up the bill for their poor wages and lack of benefits because most Walmart workers require tax paid benefits to survive.

Nevada’s wages are already low enough.

Does America really need yet another Walmart?

The Stripping of America’s Wealth

The Stripping of America’s Wealth

Matthew

If you are like the average American, you have seen your income and standard of living decline sharply in the past 10 years. In fact, you probably know personally many people who have seen their lives decline not just over the past 10 years but ever since the 80s.

Some of American’s money is going over seas through our insane trade policies, but the vast majority of our country’s wealth is being redistributed to the 400 wealthiest families in the country. We are being stripped of our wealth to feed the billionaires.

Yet we still grumble and bicker between ourselves. We blame each other. It’s the union workers, it’s the teachers, it’s the people with pensions, it’s the people on unemployment, welfare, food stamps. It’s the liberals or the Democrats or the Conservatives or the Libertarians …

Our news media, owned by the 1% just encourage it and refuse to explain what is really happening.

At the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Benjamin Franklin said:

We must, indeed, all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.

Well, if we all bicker between ourselves and blame each other then, rather than coming together regardless of our differences, we will surely all starve separately while the rich continue to party and dance on our graves.

Only Ten Months Left

Only Ten Months Left

Happy New Year!

Do you know what year this is?

IT IS ELECTION YEAR!

Yes, it’s election year. It’s the year we Americans get the chance to clean up our government. Every two years we get the chance to completely replace our House of Representatives.

That is in only 10 months.

If we want to see some meaningful change, whether you are Republican or Democrat, now is the time, right now, to start setting goals to fix things at the next election.

We can’t wait until October to change things and hope that anything will change. We must start today.

What can you, yourself, what can you do to help America prepare for the coming election?

Voting is not enough. It is not even close to enough. You have to get involved. We all must get involved in the management of our country. If we don’t, those who have the money and the wherewithal to buy our government will be doing just that.

Do you want to see some meaningful changes by the next election? Here are some things you can get involved in that can actually make a difference.

  1. Volunteer at your political party headquarters. Get involved. Become a committee chairperson. Check out this video for easy instruction on how to have a major impact on the candidates in your party.
  2. Join political movements that reflect your values. Join things like Move to Amend, or PD America, or Electronic Frontier Foundation, or any of many others. You can Google for a list or go to Source Watch for a list.
  3. Volunteer for your favorite candidate. But do it now. Don’t wait until October.

Now is a good time to make a New Year’s resolution to help pay back the country that you love. Get involved, today.

Why Obama Shouldn’t Bargain

Why Obama Shouldn’t Bargain
Matthew K.

If you’re wondering why Obama isn’t negotiating with the Tea Baggers in the House of Representatives, you haven’t been paying attention.

The budget that the Republicans are holding hostage is the same budget they’ve been holding hostage all along. The negotiations are over. Got that? Remember Boehner saying he got 98% of what he wanted? Remember the last hostage taking when the Tea Party got their sequester that we’re still suffering through? Remember when Obama said, “nothing is off the table?” Remember those times?

That is when we were in negotiations. The budget has since been agreed to, the Tea Baggers got 98% of what they want, and now, they threaten harm to our country and our government and our economy if they can’t extract even more concessions, now, long after the negotiations have been finished.

This is just like someone negotiating to buy your house and then after you’ve agreed on a price, they come back and say, give me more or I’ll burn your house down.

This is not an attempt by the Republicans to negotiate in good faith. This is nothing less than a power grab. They got away with bullying Obama last time and just like a schoolyard bully, they’re sure they can get away with it again.

Obama set an extremely bad precedent by allowing them to bully him last time and now he’s paying the price. And he will continue to pay one ransom after another until he has nothing left to offer or until he stands up straight and looks them in the eyes and says this isn’t how a democracy operates. And, thankfully, it looks like he and America have finally learned our lesson.

Hey Tea Baggers. Negotiations are over. Pay for the things that America has agreed to and quit holding our country hostage.

Why is the US Government Still Shut Down?

Why is the US Government Still Shut Down?
by
Matthew K.

Why haven’t the Republicans in the House put an end to the sequester that is strangling our economy?
Why haven’t they stopped the government shutdown?
What will they do when the debt ceiling needs to be raised to pay for the bills and laws that the Republicans passed?

It should be blatantly obvious to anyone by now that things are going EXACTLY as the Republicans have planned. They are perfectly happy to keep the government out of business. They will be happy when the poor starve and the middle class become the poor and the billionaires own the entire country and our government. That would be a good day for them and their owners.

This isn’t hyperbole. This is real. This is exactly what the rich want. No government oversight. No education for an informed electorate, no funds for the EPA so they can dump their poisons in our lakes and in our air, no taxes to pay for the poor or the retired or the sick. No taxes for Obamacare.

Is any of this good for Americans? Is any of this good for a Democracy? Of course not.

It’s time, today, to start a recall petition of every single Republican who doesn’t stand up to the tea party.

If we don’t make our stand right, now, today, it will be too late to save this country. The wolves have us by the throat and we’re all too busy watching TV to even care. Maybe we get exactly what we deserve.

OR

Maybe we’re starting to wake up. Maybe we’re seeing the insanity of the billionaires and their Tea Party. Maybe we’re getting Mad As Hell and We’re Not Going To Take This Anymore.

Get out in the street. Get out there and start talking to everyone you know. We have to fix this today, for tomorrow will be too late.

It’s Not a Horse Race

It’s Not a Horse Race

Matthew K.

I read this on today’s news:

Both sides are making it clear today that they take the partial shutdown of the federal government seriously.

House Speaker John Boehner, in calling for talks with the White House, said, “This isn’t some damn game.”

This is such an obvious example of our broken and harmful news media in America. These opening statements in the news article imply that both sides are “serious” but there is no mention of the actual facts.

The Democrats in Congress provided a budget proposal to the Republicans almost six months ago and the Republicans have refused to bring it up for a discussion or a vote. They refused, even though Boehner said he got 98% of everything he wanted. The budget even included the economy-destroying sequester the Republicans want.

So to rephrase this, the Democrats gave the Republican everything they wanted and now the Republicans refuse to accept that and demand even more.

Then the worthless press publishes articles like this implying that somehow the Democrats weren’t being serious before.

This kind of unprofessional, childish news reporting is just as harmful to our country as the corrupt politicians and the tea bagger billionaires who own them.

Hey, news industry. Wake up! You’re poisoning our country.

What Universe Does Mark Amodei Live In?

What Universe Does Mark Amodei Live In?
Matthew
When Amodei was asked to do something about Climate Change, he responded like he was from another planet. Climate Change is as plain as the nose on his face and he still was so out of touch to respond as follows:
August 20, 2013
Ms. Gxxx Axxx
xxxx xxx xxxx Blvd
xxxx xxx xxxx Blvd.
Reno, NV 89506
Dear Ms. Axxxx:
Thank you for contacting me to express your thoughts on climate change. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

As you know, climatology is complex issue. For the past century scientists have widely accepted that the earth is slowly becoming warmer. Over the past 30 to 40 years, some have noted the rate of increase has become steeper.

There are many theories regarding what has caused the increase and how it can affect life as well as the environment. Most believe the earth’s warming is largely man made and that the increase in greenhouse gases is the main factor in rising temperatures. The focus of debate comes from the lack of scientific consensus on how the earth will continue to warm, and what we should to do curb the effects of any warming. Some political leaders and environmental supporters stipulate that the earth’s temperature could rise by as much as 6 degrees by the end of the century. Other noted environmentalists say that rate of increase is implausible. Over the past decade, we have seen a major slowdown in global warming and scientists are still in the process of explaining this phenomenon.
Like you I believe we need to be good stewards of our environment. I also believe we need to be wary about sweeping environmental policies driven more by emotions than by sound science. We need to be careful that our policies don’t trade one bad environmental practice for another. As an example, some of our more fuel efficient and therefore emission friendly vehicles are made with materials that are very energy intensive to mine and take much longer to decompose than those of their less fuel efficient counterparts.
I do not believe it is appropriate for the federal government to advocate one position over the other. I do agree we must have an unbiased research effort funded by both the government and the private sector to answer the essential questions about climate change. Since 1990, the U.S. has spent at least $50 billion on climate research.
With sound science and a clear understanding of the natural climate cycles that the earth undergoes, we will be able to develop effective solutions to the human causes of global warming. As legislation to address this issue comes to the House floor for a vote, be assured I will consider it carefully and keep your thoughts in mind.
I appreciate the fact that you have taken the time to apprise me of your opinions and hope that you will contact me again should you have any further comments or concerns. If you would like additional information on my activities in the House, please visit my website, www.Amodei.house.gov or connect with me on facebook.com/MarkAmodeiNV2 and twitter.com/MarkAmodeiNV2.
In closing, please know that I consider it a privilege to serve and represent you and your family in Congress.
Sincerely,
Mark E. Amodei

Big Spenders

Big Spenders
By Matthew K.

I ran across this infographic today and was amused and quite happy to see people pushing back on the propaganda and spin blaming Obama.

Who are the biggest spenders?

This info comes from Rick Ungar at Forbes. Read the article. It says a lot about why the numbers the conservatives are spinning are, as they always are, all wrong. But, being wrong never discourages the conservative followers from believing the lies.

But this discussion, though necessary, distracts from the real issues. If we could get America back to the top of our game overnight by doubling the national debt, it would pay for itself in just a few short years in lower expenses (unemployment, welfare…) and higher income (taxes). Wouldn’t we all be just sick and tired of the nay sayers complaining about every nickel and dime?

Here is another table showing national debt correlated with political parties in control. This should show anyone willing to view the data that you can’t just point to the president or just point to the Congress or just point to one party or another. The problem is policy, not party and not president.

The real question is what makes up this debt. If this debt is frivolous spending then we have a real problem on our hands and we need to correct the cause of the spending. I’ll gladly say that almost all military spending is frivolous. We don’t need a military the size of the entire rest of the world combined. So here is a graph showing what is causing the deficit.

What is causing the deficit

It’s time we quit trying to blame people for the problem. We all know the truth. The problem is policies. It’s time to discontinue the disastrous policies of the Bush era. It’s time to, instead, invest that money in re-growing America’s economy and industry and labor force and labor unions. We have to go back to the way we were doing it before Reagan. You know. Back when America was great.

Stop the war on the working people. Stop the war on the unions. Go back to taxing the rich at a reasonable rate. You know, something like 90% over three million dollars and no loopholes. And it’s time for a wealth tax. Too much money in the hands of a select few is destroying this country. A wealth tax of 90% for anything over 100 million dollars and 100% for anything over one billion dollars is about right. Just say no to billionaires.

Stop Tipping

Stop Tipping
by
Matthew K

You go to the restaurant and get a nice meal and good service so you tip the waitress. More than likely, your meal was okay, your service was hurried and impersonal, and you still feel obligated to tip more than 10%. You tell yourself you’re doing it because the waitress needs your tips to survive.

In your effort to do something nice for your server, you’re actually doing them harm.

By tipping, you’re encouraging, almost forcing the restaurant owner to steal their tips. Here’s how.

By knowing that the waitresses get 10-15% in tips, the owner reduces their pay by that much, effectively stealing her tips.

This happens in EVERY restaurant and EVERY industry where tips are expected.

This isn’t fair to the worker. They should be paid fairly by their employer and if they’re not, we, you and I, should not be giving them our business.

What happens when a waitress stays home sick? They get minimum wage and no tips for the time she’s out of work. Sick leave seldom includes tips.

So, by tipping, you’re at fault for the waitress’ poor pay and lack of fair Social Security contributions, and poor sick leave.

And, this problem isn’t just limited to the restaurant industry.

Stop tipping.

$55 Million for Nothing

$55 Million for Nothing
Matthew K.

So the House of Representatives has voted for the 37th time to repeal Obamacare.

This childishness has cost you and me over $55 Million. We can’t afford to feed starving children in America but we can put up with our politicians playing political games that cost us millions of dollars? Really?

This is the 37th time the Republican have pulled this stunt, knowing every time that it is a waste of time. They do it solely for the purpose of playing politics. Childish games and nothing more.

Now, if you consider yourself a Republican, can you tell me how many times your party has tried to fix or improve Obamacare? You probably don’t, so I’ll tell you. Zero! Got that? Nada! None.

Think about that a minute. Why would a political party play those games but never try to improve something they pretend is broken? Obviously they don’t care what or who gets hurt by their games. They wouldn’t want to actually improve or fix anything broken.  All they want is to play games and try to oppose everything that might help America.

While they’re playing games, real children are starving. Real Climate Change is destroying our country and our planet. The economy is stalling. But, they don’t have time to address any of those things. No sirree. They only have time to play like little children.

Who, in their right mind, would vote for such a pathetic party? Really?

Only Third World Countries Have Political Prisoners

Only Third World Countries Have Political Prisoners
Matthew K.

You would think that only third world countries have a political system so broken as to allow political prisoners.

Well, I have some bad news for you. America is that country.

Check out this story of Don Siegelman, America’s most obvious political prisoner. Once you’ve checked it out, be sure to sign the petition to free this unjustly imprisoned man. We need to investigate Karl Rove and see about reversing all the damage he and his turd blossoms have done to this country we love.
