Galaxy Theaters and Reefer Madness

reefer

I went to a movie at the Galaxy Theaters the other day and was infuriated by the larger than life ad spewing lies about legalized cannabis.  The ad smacked of the same lies we were told back in the reefer madness era. Lies about one thing after another.

Many of us can see the lies as the propaganda they are but there are many people out there who will actually believe these ads. And the sad part is that these same fools (being made fools by the ads they watch) go out there and vote based on those lies.

Shame on you Galaxy Theaters for allowing these blatant lies on your screen.  If you’re going to allow these obviously lies on your screen, you should at least preface them with a disclaimer to the effect that “the following propaganda ad may contain lies, deception, and falsehoods, so be sure to verify what you see on these ads before believing in them.”

Anything less than that, and you are responsible for people being made fools of all for your profit. Have some morals. It’s not just about profit. There is a responsibility you carry that you don’t deceive or otherwise harm your customers.

Here are some facts to clear up the lies:

  • Legal cannabis does not look like the Hershey’s candy you see in a grocery store. You don’t accidentally pick up the wrong kind of candy. I know, it sounds stupid, but that’s exactly what the ad infers and some people believe it.
  • Way more than one in six people viewing the ad will be made fools by the lies. However, exactly zero kids in six will get addicted to cannabis.

Take the poll:

Should the US legalize marijuanna (cannabis) nationally?

Are We Getting Fed Up Yet?

What’s with all the senseless killings in our news? Is this how we will define our lives and how our children and grandchildren remember us?

Cops kill unarmed civilians, especially people of color. Grand juries find the cops not guilty.

The backlash against the cops is getting out of hand, but are we surprised, are we listening, yet?

What’s the thought process, today? “There’ll be more civilian killings until morale improves!”

Cops who kill civilians need to be tried in a court system that is separate from the system used to try civilians. There’s no way a court designed to believe the cop’s testimony above all else can possibly fairly try a cop, or a civilian for that matter. No wonder they’re usually acquitted for the murders they do.

Killing cops in retribution isn’t the answer but it’s obviously the symptom of a judicial system that is ceasing to function.

Fix the system now. Convict the killing cops and the problem will go away. Continue to neglect the problem like we’re doing now, and it will get worse, much worse.

What’s Next, Hillary Clinton?

The big mistake the Democratic politicians have been making for the past 30 years, the big reason Democrats are sick of voting for them, is that they campaign to the base (the Progressives) in the primary election and then move to the center to try to get the moderate voters in the general election.

How has this worked for the Democrats? I’ll tell you how. It’s pissing off the Democratic voters enough that they are leaving. Why is the Democratic part so ignorant that they can’t see this?

So, now Hillary says she has the primary election all wrapped up and she and Obama are saying it’s time for the rest of the party to come over to her side.

Here’s what I say about that. Bullshit! Those who aren’t voting for Hillary think she’s just another Republican. As she moves more to the right to foolishly try to catch the moderate voters, she will be further abandoning the real Democrats on the left.

Why should any of us come to the Republican side and vote for Hillary while she moves further and further into Republican territory?

We won’t! If Hillary wants the Democratic voters to vote for her, and not just the moderates, then she will have to move further into the Democratic camp, not further into the Republican camp.

Why is there even the slightest chance that a Republican idiot like Trump could get elected president? Because the Democrats are sick of their party moving further and further into the conservative crazy train. We are sick of voting for Republican lite politicians. We’re sick of voting for someone who says one thing in the primary and then moves into the enemy camp for the general election.

Hey, Hillary, if you don’t want your base, the Sanders supporters to stay home on election day, give us a Democrat to vote for, not just another Republican.

US Gun Ownership Explodes – What’s the Effect

Gun ownership in the US has exploded and along with it the number of gun deaths has gone up as well, just as one would expect.  It is quite concerning that many of those gun owners have the mental capacity of a squirrel or NRA member, believing that “more guns” is the solution.

This means that many of those mentally challenged gun toting people are out there with their weapons loaded driving their cars and sharing our public spaces, shooting up our schools and theaters.

This has got to stop. The US has got to take a stand against this stupidity and the needless deaths.

Now, dont jump to conclusions,  I’m a strong advocate for the right to own guns, within reason. I even enjoy target practice,  myself.

It’s sad that I see these squirrels on the social media sites spewing their NRA talking points but never sticking around long enough to defend their mistaken positions or risk actually finding out theyre on the wrong side of history.

Why do we continue to sacrifice our safety and the safety of our children so those iimbeciles can make up for their insecurities at our expense?

It’s time we regulated firearms like the constitution says.

Greenland Spring Thaw Comes Early

This is by far the earliest Greenland has seen their spring thaw. It is more than a half month earlier than anytime in the past.

This is just another proof of global warming.

Global warming will be devastating to the world’s economies whereas moving off fossil fuels today would actually stimulate economies.

When do we Just Say No to fossil fuels?

We Are Now In the Sixth Great Extinction

According to numerous university research studies, the earth is now in the 6th great extinction.

Why should you care?

According to their findings, humans will be one of the earliest species to vanish.

Every time we hear someone denying global warming, we need to humiliate them so their stupidity doesn’t infect other people. We have to fix this train wreck and we have to start serious changes immediately.

Go and read this BBC article. Then, get active.

Question #3 Amendment to Nevada Constitution

It is a real disgrace but we are suffering a multi million dollar ad campaign, or should I say lie and deceive campaign against the amendment, Nevada ballot measure, question #3.

I will try to add some reality to the actual question and try to dispel the most common lies and deception. Most of the talking points can be found at their website, Coalition to Defeat the Margin Tax Initiative.

  1.  The tax is a small, contrary to the claim, “huge,” in the lies. 2% is a small tax.
  2.  The tax is only calculated on the gross sales if the company wants to file that way. Even then, it’s 70% of 2% or 1.4%. Not all so huge.
  3.  If the business decides to, they can claim tax only on proceeds after subtracting cost of goods sold (and that includes labor/payroll costs). In other words, a business that is making millions in sales but little or no profit will have little or no tax since cost of goods sold will be almost as much as gross sales.
  4. The money collected will be put in the State Distributive School Account, to be distributed in a manner provided by laws that already govern those funds. There is no risk that the funds will not go to the school district.
  5.  Few if any businesses will have to close or relocate because of this tax. However, if the companies elect to move rather than repaying the community that supports them, then I say good riddance to bad rubbish.

So much for the down side of this ballot measure. Let’s now consider the good:

  1.  It is in the state’s best interest to decouple the school system funding from our property taxes. The way the system works now, those poor communities where property taxes are low have the lowest funding for their schools.
  2. Getting away from the destructive notion that the rich get a free ride in Nevada because we don’t expect them to pay their fair share in income taxes, is a good move in the right direction.  After all, this tax is only for businesses with more than $1 Million in revenue.

If I’ve missed anything here, go right ahead and make your case in the comments below.

OMG!! EBOLA!

We are now seeing Ebola victims in hospitals all across Africa, in Spain, Germany, and the USA, and so many more.

I hear people say it’s Obama’s fault. Well, the same people say everything is Obama’s fault so their arguments are meaningless. But how should we be dealing with this nightmare?

Should we shut down our airports and turn away everyone from every country that might have an Ebola patient? Maybe only the ones with brown or black Ebola patients?

If we decide to shut down the airports, we should also shut down our sea ports. And for that matter, maybe we should just start shooting anyone who looks like they might be trying to come to the USA.

Well, okay, I was being facetious, but these issues have to be discussed seriously and without fear and hatred.

Thomas, the Ebola patient who died in Texas followed screening guidelines. The news at first was reporting that he lied on the questionnaire, but it turned out that he didn’t realize his relative had Ebola at the time. She died later.

This demonstrates and a little common sense indicates that there is no way we can prevent any and every case from coming to the USA. We should be diligent and limit the numbers who come but to expect to get 100% is just a dream.

So, what do we do to successfully manage this disease once it’s come to the USA? Obviously what we’re doing now isn’t working. The health care worker who worked on Thomas has now come down with the disease. Again, obviously what we’re doing now isn’t working.

We need a national health care system that can work as a unit, following guidelines for preparing for the incoming patients and guidelines on how to treat the patients. This can’t be done on a for-profit basis. Why would a hospital pay the money up front to prepare only to find that they never get an Ebola patient. Thomas was turned away from the hospital on his first visit because they couldn’t make money on him.

What is even more important is that since the Texas Governor wants to play politics with the lives of poor working Texans, a full 25% of working Texans do not even have health insurance. They are not going to be going to the doctor when they really  should be. They’ll wait until it’s an emergency and then go to the emergency room in the hospital, all the while spreading the disease.

Thankfully we have Obamacare to help those in the Democratic states. They will be going to the doctors rather than spreading the disease. The red states? All I can say is I hope they wake up before it’s too late.

Christian Views on Abortion

After reading Dave’s two posts on America a Christian Nation and Visitor Comment, I got motivated to follow up. Although Dave’s posts were factual and he made good arguments, I disagree with his inclinations of intolerance.

When educating children as well as adults, you have to show patience and refrain from making the readers feel incapable. But enough about writing styles. Let’s talk about the forbidden subject, abortion.

It seems that after the Supreme Court made another of their many mistakes and made sweeping laws by deciding on all cases regarding Roe vs Wade, all rational discussion stopped. Not only was the Supreme Court out of bounds deciding on this issue as a global decision, but they stopped the discussion Americans were having regarding abortion. Since then, the different sides quit coming together and began drifting apart.

America needs to start talking about abortion again, and start coming together on some serious solutions. Obviously all one way or all the other will never work and is bad for America. Too bad, though, that some feel that it doesn’t matter if it’s bad for America, as long as they get their way. If we only had more Americans like that, we’d be back in the Dark Ages.

We need to reopen the discussion of abortion.

What does your church say about abortion?

Let me answer that for you. It doesn’t matter!

Got that? Churches are creations of man, controlled by man, supported by man’s donations, led by men. If you’re Christian, what your church says about abortion means nothing. What matters is what your God says about it.

If your God doesn’t agree with your church, and I can guarantee that for most Christians they don’t, then the man is fallible, your God is not.

The real question is, what does the Christian God say about abortion?

From the few links provided by the post on Christian Nation, we can see that God recommended abortion on multiple occasions to stop the birth of children into infected/heathen villages. The Christian Bible even has a detailed recipe for abortion.

The Bible references life to begin when the breath of life is blown. In other words, life begins at birth, at first breath.

Don’t believe this? Read the Bible. For example, in Exodus:

21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
21:23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
21:25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

This tells us two things about abortion and Christian belief.

  1. If a man brutalizes a woman causing an abortion/miscarriage, then, meh, he has to pay the lesser of what the husband wants or what the judges might decide. However,
  2. If the woman dies or suffers any other mischief, then he pays “life for life.”

Ponder that. According to the Christian Bible, an unborn child is not a “person” worthy of a life for a life because it isn’t born yet. Is it worth something? Sure, something, but not the same as a life or a “tooth for a tooth.”

If this isn’t what your Christian church teaches, then you are going to the wrong church if you are trying to follow the teachings of Jesus. Jesus taught the principles in the Bible. All of the Bible.

I’ll leave you with an important question and ask that you consider it seriously. Why does your church preach things that are the contrary to the principles defined in black and white in the Bible and taught by Jesus? Is yours the church of God or the church of man?

Let’s open up the discussion and come together as a country on how best to deal with the issue of abortion. And let’s leave the troubled churches out of it.

Visitor Comment on Church and State

Checking over the mail queue, I ran across this comment. Since no one else has responded to this, I will do my best. In fact, since my posts are probably the most likely to be read as combative, it was probably meant for me, anyway.

Here is the comment submitted by a reader calling himself Jay:

For someone who claims to want peace you sure are angry and devisive. Do you believe looking down your nose at people because their views differ from yours is a way to peace? As if no one has a right to any belief that differs from yours. I would also like to say that your peace on Christianity playing not playing a role in our constitution as well as your supposed quotes from the bible are factually incorrect and far from the truth. There is also absolutely nothing in the constitution about “the separation of church & state. Any time you would like to be informed on the truth let me know I’d be glad to assist you. To move towards peace would require you and everyone for that matter to stop & examine themselves before criticizing others. Stop looking at the speck in my eye and examine the log in your own. Stay well my brother. You may have unjustified hatred towards myself and everyone else who’s opinion differs but I still love all my brothers, sisters, and fellow Americans.

As I stated, this was not attached to any specific post so I can only imagine that it’s more a comment about Just-Say-Why in general. The reader, Jay, seems to have missed the fact that there are multiple authors posting here and has either lumped us all together or is maybe directing this to someone specific but just doesn’t quite know it yet.

Angry and Divisive

Let’s start at the top: “For someone who claims to want peace you sure are angry and devisive [sic].”

Unlike most bloggers here, I am quite intolerant of those who are so blind they will not see. Too much tolerance is like too many vitamins. They are both bad. Both can kill the host, be it a human body or the body politic. I have no tolerance for those who refuse to admit the facts, those who cling to disproved talking points. In other words, I have little tolerance for those being lied to by Fox and who know it but still watch.

I don’t think anyone here is angry or divisive or looking down our nose. We aren’t angry at those destroying our democracy, but I do feel very little patience for them and we all feel considerable pity for them. They are being hurt by their ignorance just as much as their poor political choices are hurting the rest of the country.

Christianity and the Constitution

Your next point:

I would also like to say that your peace [sic] on Christianity playing not playing a role in our constitution as well as your supposed quotes from the bible are factually incorrect and far from the truth. There is also absolutely nothing in the constitution about “the separation of church & state. Any time you would like to be informed on the truth let me know I’d be glad to assist you.

To start, what piece are you referring to? There are numerous posts on this site and I don’t see any of them claim that those specific words are in the constitution. But almost every religious reference in the constitution and in other founding documents all point to the need to keep the churches out of the government and keep the government out of the church. Just doing a simple (anyone can do it) search in the constitution for religion gives the following instructions for keeping the religious fanatics out of our government.:

  1. … but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States
  2.  Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion

The Treaty of Tripoli

See what our founding fathers said about this being a Christian nation:

As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Okay, these are the facts. Now, Jay, please feel free to “assist” me on how these facts don’t really mean what they say.

And, lastly, Jay says, “Stop looking at the speck in my eye and examine the log in your own”

No one has to look for the speck in the eyes of those refusing to read the facts, the log is visible from quite a distance. If you were as open to understanding the facts and changing your mistaken world view based on what you find, as most of those you disagree with, the world would be a better place. Open your mind. A closed mind will never learn but it will make a great blind and brainless follower.

The Demise of the Republican Party Has Been Greatly Exaggerated

Single Issue Voters Getting Manipulated

Almost all of America agrees with the policies of the Progressive Left. This includes agreeing with the majority of the following issues:

  • The rich have gotten too rich
  • The rich have too much influence over our political system
  • Our political system needs to be more representative of the needs of the middle class
  • We need to fix the economy so we can bring back the middle class in this country
  • We need to take care of the least among us, including extended unemployment benefits, food stamps, food for poor children
  • We need to fix our broken health care system
  • We need to get off fossil fuels and need to start developing energy systems for the 21st century
  • We need to do something about global warming and the freaky once-in-a-century storms we’re seeing every day, now

In fact, not only does the vast majority of America believe these things, the vast majority of REPUBLICANS believe these things.

So, if that’s true, then why does anyone still vote republican? The answer is obvious and this answer explains why America is at a greater risk than ever of being destroyed by the wealthy, at the hands of the the Republican voters who believe all these things. This answer should scare the dickens out of you.

The Republican party and the top 1% of our wealthy elite have found a way to get the average Republican to vote against America. This sounds like hyperbole, but bear with me. The vast majority of Republican voters are single issue voters. In other words, they are willing to see all the other issues, mentioned above, go to Hell as long they get their one hot item issue. Even if they don’t get the one issue, they’ll vote for a party that lies to them and says they’re going to provide it.

And, what are these single issues that the Republican voter will vote for even if it means the destruction of America? What are the things that are so important that they’re more important than our economy or more important than everything else our country stands for? You’ve probably guessed. But here is a short list of things that some fanatics will vote for, even if it means voting against everything else that matters to them.

  • Gun rights
  • Abortion restrictions
  • Birth control restrictions
  • Putting women in their place at the back of the bus
  • Putting minorities at the back of the bus
  • Putting gays in their place
  • Protecting the great white class in America
  • Religious control of our country
  • Getting rid of the black man in the white house
  • Undoing equal rights
  • Benghazi
  • Anything Fox News says

The wealthy have found out how to control these ignorant fanatics to vote against everything that matters to them, just so long as they foolishly believe their one-ticket item will finally be addressed.

And now that the Republicans in the Supreme Court have opened the flood gates and allowed the wealthy and transnational corporations control of our political process, we are seeing billions of dollars spent to get those fanatics mobilized.

Come election day, these fanatics will be wetting their pants from all the scary advertising and will be the first ones in line to vote.

All the while, the rest of America will watch in horror at the spectacle that we see every election year and most will neglect to even get to the voting booths.

Big money will be controlling the fanatics more than ever this election year. If the rest of us quietly watch from the sidelines, we can kiss this country goodbye. Not goodbye in the future or goodbye next year or in a few years. If we don’t fix this right now, we will not get another chance.

Talk to your friends. Talk to your neighbors. Try to wake up your single-issue voters in your family to the fact that they’re being manipulated to vote against their own best interests and the best interest of their country.

More than anything, get everyone you know to register and get out and vote.

The Demise of the Republican Party Has Been Greatly Exaggerated

Lies and Damn Lies

How our information is being corrupted and three simple things you can do to fight back.

puppetOur information is being corrupted constantly. This has been discussed here many times, such as Information Pollution, The Liberal Media and Political Scandals, put out primarily by billion dollar corporations and millionaire personalities being our sole source of network news.

But there are even more treacherous types of misinformation than this. The billionaire conservative think tanks hire sock puppets to spread their meme all day long on the Internet. For example, technology websites such as Slashdot have paid shills that spend eight hours every day posting lies and misleading comments about such things as Obamacare and nuclear energy, trying to change the minds of the average reader.

Many sites see this. Here at JustSayWhy we see hundreds of them every election season.

Some sock puppets get paid to go to the book websites and submit reviews playing up the conservative books and leaving bad comments for the progressive books. There are even many conservative who do this without getting paid, just to try to prove to the world that their side is right, even if they have to lie to do so. How can they be right if they have to lie? But they never get far enough to reason that part out.

Many of the billionaire and transnational corporate think tanks buy thousands of new conservative books and give them away as incentives and prizes. This makes the books appear on the New York Best Seller lists even though they aren’t really being sold.

All of this just helps sell the defective conservative agenda and distorts our information. Eventually, it almost makes it seem reasonable to listen to the conservative perspective. It has gotten to the point where you can’t believe anything you see in comments and book and even product reviews.

What can you do about this? Here are three simple things to do that you should do regularly and they will only take you a few moments.

1. Submit your own reviews. This is important! If the liars have 1,000 sock puppets, that is nothing compared to the millions of real customers who could be leaving honest reviews. And, when you see reviews that you can tell are biased or outright lies, it’s important to expose them for the lies they are.

This means that if you’ve read a library book, go to the library website and to Amazon and B&N and to any other book website and spend 60 seconds writing a review. That’s a simple task to help counter the lies.

Most sites allow you to vote on the reviews. Be sure to mark up the reviews you agree with and mark down the lies. Amazon lets you say if a review helped you. Many sites let you “like” a comment.

2. Wikipedia is heavily polluted with pages that have been edited repeatedly to give them a more conservative bent. Open an account on Wikipedia and edit a page here or there that you might have some personal knowledge about. And, it’s important to expose those sock puppets who are just out there to pollute our information.

3. Leave comments on blogs you visit. Don’t feed the trolls, though. If someone is obviously shilling for a corporation or political agenda, don’t address them personally, just post comments with the facts as you know them. If you can “like” other’s comments be sure to like those you agree with. This affects how often these comments show up.

These three simple things will help  us keep our information more reliable.

Conservatives and Democracy

Help me out, here, if you can.

This seems so obvious yet I never hear anyone talking about it and would never, ever expect to hear about it in the news or even in political articles. Why not?

Here’s my concern.

There has been plenty of research into the weakness Republicans have for hierarchy. They grow up with it, they crave it, they exhibit signs that they need it, they vote for it, they demand it in their churches, they exhibit nervousness in its absence.

Conservatives expect a strong, unquestioned father figure in the home. In some few cases, it may be a matriarchy as opposed to a patriarchy where the mother rules with unquestioned authority.

Conservatives vote for strong leaders. Nowhere in the constitution does it say we should be voting for leaders. Democracies don’t have leaders, we have representatives. Look at any president conservatives have voted in during your lifetime. They are all perceived as strong “leaders”. Look at the congressmen and even the local “leaders” the conservative vote in.

Conservatives tend to be more active in their religion, a religion that is the epitome of patriarchy. Like a cult, you get excommunicated when you question the “leader.”

Conservatives raise their children to respect authority, never question it.

Liberals, on the other hand, know that all authority must be continually questioned, You never take anything on faith. There are no kings in America, because our founding fathers were majority liberal.

Here’s a simple example: when driving down the road, if you pass a policeman, you will notice that some drivers will slow down and fear (respect) authority while others will nod and say thank you and continue on at the legal speed. Which ones are liberal and which are conservative? Seems obvious to me.

Taking this to the logical conclusion, conservative voters vote against democracy at every opportunity because democracy is non-hierarchical. Conservatism needs a strong leader, a king or a dictator. Liberals need representatives.

If our founding fathers were conservatives, this would not be a democracy and if today’s conservatives get their way, we will cease to be one.

Being liberal or conservative shows different brain structure, but this is because of how the children are raised. In other words, there is a cure for conservatism. Training, education, and birth control. Some of them just have to be trained on how to be empathetic. And, all of them need to be removed from the education system.

No More Walmarts in Sparks

No More Walmarts in Sparks
by
David Schlecht

In an earlier post by Matt, we learn that Walmart is hoping to open a new store, yet another Wal-mart in Sparks, Nevada.

The last thing America needs is another Walmart.

As it turned out, the Sparks City Council caved in, completely. It was unanimous! They heart Walmart.

As some of the comments suggest, perhaps it’s time to replace the Sparks City Council.  Perhaps recall petitions starting today might open their eyes before the damage is done.

But, the fight is not over. I got an email from Ken Johnston who is actively working on preventing this mistake:

Hello,

You are receiving this message because you expressed interest in the proposed Walmart Supercenter in Sparks. As you know or may have heard, the Sparks city council recently approved Walmart’s special use permit last Monday, allowing the developer and Walmart to begin construction of the 185,000 square foot Walmart Supercenter on 18 acres near Sparks Marina at Marina Gateway Drive and Lincoln Way.

However, I just learned that in order for the project to move forward, it must also be approved by the Truckee Meadows Regional Agency. As has been consistent with this project, we have little notice or time to act. Specifically, the Regional Planning Commission will be holding a public meeting and vote on whether or not to approve the project as being “in conformance with the regional plan” this upcoming Wednesday at 6:00pm at the Washoe County Commission Chambers located at 1001 East Ninth Street in Reno

Just like at the council meeting, any member of the public will be allowed to attend and speak for up to three minutes on why the project is not right for Sparks or the region for that matter. I strongly encourage anyone who is able to attend to please do so and speak out on why this project is so bad for the community. After the issue is discussed, the commission will then likely vote on whether or not to approve the developer’s and Walmart’s plans. Hearing from the public on why this is wrong for the community could make the difference.

If the vote does not go our way, there is also an opportunity to appeal the commission’s decision to the governing board and I will keep you posted on that. However, please consider attending this important meeting and if you can’t make it, please let others know who might be able to; you can point them to the website for specifics www.notanothersparkswalmart.com. Also, please consider emailing or calling the Truckee-Meadows Regional Planning Commissioners (input@tmrpa.org; 775-321-8385) to let them know that we do not want or need another Walmart Supercenter in Sparks!

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend this last minute meeting due to traveling for work but would appreciate hearing how it goes from anyone who is able to attend. Please email me if and when you get a chance to let me know how it goes and if you have any questions before or after. Thank you in advance for your support and efforts on this important issue.
Best regards,
Ken Johnston

More Walmarts means more of our tax dollars supporting sub-poverty wages, food stamps, welfare, all to fatten the profits of the Walmart heirs. It means more locally owned stored going under. It means more decent paying jobs going away. It’s bad any way you look at it.

If you’re from the Reno/Sparks area or Nevada or anywhere in this world, help us by joining in our fight to stop yet another Walmart in Sparks.

Are we seeing the cancer stage of capitalism?

What’s Wrong With Hunting

What’s Wrong With Hunting
Dave Speck

We’ve all read the usual complaints about hunting and hunters, from the perspective of the inhumanity through the arguments of empathy, sympathy, and reason. But there is a still darker side to hunting.

We’ve seen humans blowing up other humans and even seen humans stroll into a school and massacre little children.

There’s no doubt that this is wrong. Anyone who does this is sick. There is a disease that enables them to do what most people would find too repulsive.

The disease allows people to kill other people, and not just allows them to do it but makes it fun. Not only were these sick people enjoying what they were doing, they were excited. The excitement even goes so far as to cause sexual excitement in the diseased killers.

Why is it wrong to kill other humans? Why is it wrong to kill children? Is it okay to kill children because they have low IQs? Is it okay to kill adults with low IQs? Is it okay to kill other people’s kids but not your own? Is it okay to kill a distant relative?

You can probably see where this is going. Exactly how far detached must your cousin be before it’s okay to murder them? There is no distance. It’s wrong no matter if they’re our next door neighbors or our neighbors across the world.

All living things on this earth share common ancestors. Everything is our cousins.

Is it okay to murder a cousin because he’s far enough away from your blood line? Of course not. It’s a sickness to even want to kill your cousin. If you’re excited and aroused by killing, it’s a sickness.

It is time for America, and all mankind, to start looking at the thrill of killing others to be a sickness, no matter how distant the relative is. It’s a sickness that infects all of society. We must quit treating hunting and murder as a choice rather than a disease.

Who Would Do That?

Who Would Do That?

As we all know, the Democratic candidates got more votes in all three branches of government, last election. More people voted for Democratic House members, more people voted for Democratic Senate candidates, and more people voted for a Democratic president.

Of course, even though there were about a million and a half more Democratic votes for the House, the Republican still control it because of electioneering, you know, circumventing the vote of the people.

But, why would a political party obstruct the country at every opportunity when they know the majority voted for the changes they obstruct? Why would a political party try to stop the will of the voters?

A party that intended to derail a democracy would be considered undemocratic, wouldn’t they? They would certainly never get elected into power into the country they’re trying to derail would they?

Would you vote for a party that actively tried to circumvent and obstruct the will of the majority? Would you vote Republican? Most people say, no! Who would do that?

Your God is Here

I don’t consider myself an atheist by any stretch, but consider any religious person without an open mind to be a slave, and an easy target for religions and the republican party. But, still, with an open mind, I found this concept quite interesting. Which God in there is yours?

What are your new year’s resolutions?

Here are a few you might want to consider.

  1. Contact your representatives about the important issue of the day. This gives you ONLY 52 things to fix and we all know there are more than that.
  2. Get involved in your local democratic party. Find out why this is so important
  3. Talk to your neighbors about the issues of the day, even the conservatives.
  4. Give what you can to Progressive organizations.

Carbon Sinks

Carbon Sinks
by
David Schlecht

Ever wonder where all the continent-size coal fields came from? Ever wonder where all the oceans of oil came from? Ever wonder about the term fossil fuels? Let’s look into these issues for a quick trip down memory lane.

Oil is the ancient remnants (fossils) of carbon-rich microbes. Not just one or two, but oceans full of them. Where did they go? Why don’t we see anything even closely duplicating that today?

Coal is the ancient remains of carbon-rich plants. We don’t see any plants like that leaving behind any coal for us today.

Why? Where have all the fossil fuel sources gone?

Just like we would be unable to live on the earth during those days, those plants and microbes are unable to live on today’s Earth.

Millions of years ago the earth was a very different place, so different, in fact, that you and I would not be able to breath there.  The CO2 in the atmosphere was over 1,000 ppm (parts per million). We wouldn’t survive.

At the beginning of the industrial revolution the CO2 in our air was about 280 ppm. Right now, we’re just under 400 ppm.

When the air was rich in CO2, there was an abundance of plants and microbes that metabolized the carbon and the fossils of these became carbon sinks, sinking oceans of carbon in oil fields and continents of carbon in coal fields, under the surface of the earth. These are huge carbon sinks that helped remove the carbon from the air, making it possible for you and me to breathe, making it possible for most of the plants and animals we see today, to exist.

As we burn up these carbon sinks in our gas tanks and in our power plants, we are returning to the atmosphere the rich abundance of carbon that will make Earth a place in which we can no longer live.

We all know that humans will stop this foolish mistake of returning the carbon to our airs long before it’s too late. But, there are many other carbon sinks in the world that will automatically release their carbon just by the earth warming up.

As hard as it may be to believe, it is possible that our world could change into a planet inhospitable to life as we know it and after a point, there may not be a darned thing we can do about it.
