Hey I stumbled upon your blog while searching for ammunition on that Harold Estes dude. You're awesome, by the way.

Here's my input on this: The United States was NOT founded on Christian beliefs, nor is it, in any means, a "Christian Nation".

The First Amendment: "Congress shall make NO law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Treaty of Tripoli: "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..."

Had to argue these points to my conservative friends who forwarded me that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd email.

Keep up the great posts!

Interesting question. I took it to mean something different ... that is, does the US act in a Christian manner by attempting to take care of its poor, feed the hungry, etc.

Thanks for the thought provoking poll!

Well of course we are, just look at how closely the 10 commandments match our laws:

I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me.
Nope! Nothing. Nada. Not in our constitution and not in any of the other national laws at the creation of our country.

You shall not make for yourself an idol
Again, nope! Not looking too good for the American Theology crowd

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of your God
Looks like three and O. Not looking any better. Maybe it'll get better.

Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy
Bzzzzt. Wrong. Still nothing but proof against the Christian Nation agenda.

Honor your father and mother
By this point, even a true Christian Nation believer has to be starting to question. How can this be? If we're a Christian Nation, how can God's laws not be part of our country's laws?

You shall not murder
OK, so now we're getting somewhere. There is nothing in our constitution regarding murder but, well, every society must have this law to survive so it must be in our national laws somewhere. Right? Right?

You shall not commit adultery
Oh man, this is just really sad. Not a single one and we're more than half way through them. Really. Ask yourself. If we were founded as a Christian Nation could this really be so separated from the laws of Jesus?

You shall not steal
You know, I really don't see much reason to continue. We have found one that we could say must be defined somewhere but just not in our constitution. We can say the same about a couple more of these, but NONE are to be found in our country's founding documents.

But, still, I'll leave the rest of the commandments here so you can ponder them.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife
You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor

So, in conclusion, none of the laws of God are part of our country's founding documents. There's no way to misread this. They purposely ensured that they were not part of the founding documents because it was founded as a country free from religion.

Sorry.
