We’ve posted before regarding the need to protect our commons and the damage caused by allowing the greedy to exploit our commons for profit.

I’m glad to see that others are beginning to recognize the unavoidable destruction that comes from the greedy exploitation of our commons.

This is such an important issue that it has to be addressed immediately.

We are allowing some to get rich by mining our minerals, and drilling our oil. I say “our” because everything in the ground belongs to all humans, all of us. Anything and everything we take from the Earth is limited. Sooner or later everything will run out unless we make rules, right now, today, to prevent the extraction of anything that is not replaced at the expense of those benefiting from the taking.

But, stop. Think about this a minute. Aren’t you and I benefiting from having cars to drive and oil and gas to burn to keep us moving and keep our heaters and air conditioners and air filters working? I’m guessing we will all say, yes, we are all benefiting from exploiting our finite resources.

What happens to our kids and grand kids when we’ve used up all those resources? Haven’t we effectively stolen the resources from future generations?

It’s time we started realizing that this Ponzi scheme will only last so long before it will all come crashing down. What will happen to our economy when all the oil is gone? It will be the biggest economic crash we’ve ever seen and it will last the rest of time.

What happens when we’ve used the last of the rare earth minerals that make our technology run? No new computers, no new pace makers, no new technology. What do you think that will do to our economy?

Sure, there’ll be a whole new industry of little Chinese slave labor hands stripping the guts out of our old technology trying to scrounge up enough to make a new computer. What will that do to our computer industry? What will that do to our entire technology industry? It’ll be a disaster like we’ve never seen before.

Sure, we might not run out of oil today and we might have enough rare earth minerals to last a few more years, but sooner or later it will all be gone. We have to start conserving today. We need to start finding alternatives to our limited resources. We need to stop the greedy from exploiting our commons for money. When it runs out, it will be you and me that suffer. It’ll be our kids and grand kids. The greedy will already have their money.

Now, don’t expect the greedy 1% to willingly stop making money stripping away our commons. It has to be you and me to pass the laws that require that our commons be cared for. The only way to protect our commons from the greedy and from ourselves it to educate everyone of the train wreck right around the corner and to pass laws that protect our commons, right now, today.

When Will They Ever Admit?

To anyone not totally mesmerized by the right-wing media, it is obvious that the conservative policies of smaller government (no regulations), welfare for the rich, and free trade are destroying America. How could anyone really argue otherwise?

The conservatives were arguing non-stop about how global warming was a myth made up by the liberal commie hippies.

Now, here we are at a point where it is plain as day the folly of the conservative policies, yet they continue to preach the failed policies and their fooled followers just continue to follow along, unthinking.

When will the liars or the uneducated conservative followers ever admit they are wrong? When? Exactly what will it take before they admit they’re wrong?

If my conservative friends are any example there is no fact that will ever convince them that they are wrong. They even admit that. So why do we continue to bother to try to help them understand the facts? It’s time we left them for brain dead and moved on with the solutions to the past 30 years of failed conservative policies. They will never be able to help.

This post is prompted by a comment in Captain Jack’s latest blog regarding the BP disaster.

Have we passed the point of easy oil? Is oil getting harder and harder to extract now that we’re on the falling end of the bell curve?

It’s not really fair to say that we’re half way through the world’s oil reserves because no one can say for sure. But it doesn’t really matter. What really matters is that we have exhausted the easy oil and now we’re having to work harder to extract the oil.

The world’s demand for oil has been doubling every few years. At this rate of growth it’s undeniable that we will (have) exceeded the limits the easy oil drilling can deliver.

We have two choices. We can ride the falling curve as oil gets harder and harder and more risky to drill or we can start, today, to wean ourselves off. The fact is that we will have to get off oil eventually. How long do we want to stay addicted?

The climate destroying corporate apologists are out there trying their hardest to make some sort of gold out of the hay they call Climategate. After all the lies about how Soros is behind the climate studies because he’s some sort of robot or how it’s a Liberal conspiracy to bring down the carbon based energy companies just out of spite and jealousy, or how maybe it’s some plan to make Americans love hippies, there is still no evidence. But that won’t stop them.

Now that they have the emails hacked from scientists, there isn’t a single bit of proof to their silly allegations. But, that won’t stop them from coming up with new lies. They act like it’s Christmas time for them because they can prove that the climate deterioration is a fraud, never mind all the obvious proof. Now with all these emails stolen, they should be able to find something, somewhere, right? Right? Hello?

There has been no evidence to show that the figures are incorrect or even inconclusive. There is some debate among the scientists, but, remember, that’s a good thing. If everyone just agrees on everything, then we’ll all be a wrong as the Republican Party has been on this issue. Wrong every time.

They did find one scary email where the data was massaged, but no evidence of any deceit or even wrong dong. And, most importantly, there is no evidence from these hacks and break-ins that the evidence is anything but conclusive.

But, we all know that the evidence proving that man is causing climate deterioration and the lack of any credible evidence to the contrary, the Conservatives and corporate apologists will continue to chant the chant, like some sick cult. Keep repeating it and sooner or later it’s bound to come true. Right? Right?

Now with new break-ins reported, will there be more issues that the Conservatives can make hay from? Probably. But it’s pretty doubtful that one to two points of data out of millions will change any of the conclusions.

But, we need to ask, who is illegally hacking into all these systems and trying to manufacture wrong-doing? And more importantly, why aren’t they in jail, yet?
