Get Ready For The Ads

Get Ready For The Ads

Thanks to the Supreme Court and their insane Citizens United ruling, billionaires and international corporations can now spend unlimited amounts of money to drown out your first amendment right of Free Speech. This means that this is the first time in our lifetimes that anonymous donations of hundreds of millions of dollars or even billions of dollars can be spent on blatant lies.

And it’s coming.

In the next month you’ll start seeing a nauseating amount of negative ads, outright lies coming out of your TV and your radio on every billboard and in every advertising platform you can imagine.

Why is this possible? How can billionaires and international corporations defecate on our electoral process? How can they wipe themselves with our first amendment?

Because the Republicans on the Supreme Court (and yes, it was only the Republicans) think that people sick with money should run our country.

You will get sick of the negative ads. And every time you see a negative ad, and it’s brought to you by some corrupt corporation like Americans for Prosperity or Americans for a Better ______, or Concerned Citizens for a Better ___, know that their name is as deceitful as their message.

Once you’ve had enough of these crooks spewing sewage our our democracy, get mad. Donate what money you can to the Democratic candidate that they are slandering. And get mad enough to be sure to get out there and vote against the Republican machine that is trying to give our democracy to billionaires and multinational corporations.

It’s coming, so get ready, and get mad and get rid of those who have brought this crap to America.

Supreme Court Gone Rogue

Supreme Court Gone Rogue

Our government was designed as three equal branches serving as checks and balances on the other two. The branches: the legislative (Congress), the executive (the president), and the judicial (Supreme Court).

Of course, the structure is defined in the US Constitution but the principle is only defined in the supporting documents of the times. Still, the idea was that no single branch of government would be any stronger than the other two. Yet, today, that’s exactly what we have. The Supreme Court has appointed themselves supreme rulers taking on more power than the president and Congress combined.

Here’s what the constitution says about the powers of the Supreme Court of the US:

Article. III.

[Section 1.] The judicial Power of the United States shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation, which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office.

[Section 2.] The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and Treaties made, or which shall be made, under their Authority; — to all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls; — to all Cases of admiralty and maritime Jurisdiction; — to Controversies to which the United States shall be a Party; — to Controversies between two or more States; — between a State and Citizens of another State; — between Citizens of different States; — between Citizens of the same State claiming Lands under Grants of different States, and between a State, or the Citizens thereof, and foreign States, Citizens or Subjects.

In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. In all the other Cases before mentioned, the supreme Court shall have appellate Jurisdiction, both as to Law and Fact, with such Exceptions, and under such Regulations as the Congress shall make.

The Trial of all Crimes, except in Cases of Impeachment, shall be by Jury; and such Trial shall be held in the State where the said Crimes shall have been committed; but when not committed within any State, the Trial shall be at such Place or Places as the Congress may by Law have directed.

[Section 3.] Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

Please note that nowhere does it say the Supreme Court of the US (SCOTUS) has the right or the responsibility to strike down laws or approve or disapprove of the constitutionality of the laws and actions of the other two branches. It does say, power shall extend to all Cases arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States…

What, exactly, does this mean? It simply means that the SCOTUS has the power to hear cases under this constitution and the laws of the United States. Got that? It can interpret the laws and the constitution. Period!

Nowhere does it say anything more and nowhere in any of the amendments to the constitution is there any escalation of the powers of the SCOTUS. The Supreme Court has given itself the power it refers to as “judicial review.”

Way back in 1803 the SCOTUS started taking on the dictatorial powers of striking down the Congress and the president and here was the president’s response back in the day: Allowing the Supreme Court to usurp this power turns our constitution into a suicide pact and a mere thing of wax.

In denying the right they usurp of exclusively explaining the constitution, I go further than you do, if I understand rightly your quotation from the Federalist, of an opinion that “the judiciary is the last resort in relation to the other departments of the government, but not in relation to the rights of the parties to the compact under which the judiciary is derived.” If this opinion be sound, then indeed is our constitution a complete felo de se. For intending to establish three departments, co-ordinate and independent, that they might check and balance one another, it has given, according to this opinion, to one of them alone, the right to prescribe rules for the government of the others, and to that one too, which is unelected by, and independent of the nation. For experience has already shown that the impeachment it has provided is not even a scarecrow; that such opinions as the one you combat, sent cautiously out, as you observe also, by detachment, not belonging to the case often, but sought for out of it, as if to rally the public opinion beforehand to their views, and to indicate the line they are to walk in, have been so quietly passed over as never to have excited animadversion, even in a speech of any one of the body entrusted with impeachment. The constitution, on this hypothesis, is a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary, which they may twist, and shape into any form they please. [Thomas Jefferson]

This was just the first of many small and unconstitutional steps our SCOTUS has taken to grab power from the other two “equal” branches of government. Today, in the absence of any reference to the word “corporation” in the constitution, the SCOTUS has decided they deserve more rights under the constitution than We The People.

So, today, the only branch of our government that is not elected by We The People and who have lifetime appointments have usurped the power of all three branches.

If you’re waiting for President Obama or our congress or any other part of our government to clean up the abomination we call the Supreme Court, you’re uninformed. The government only does things when they get enough pressure to do so. The only time they will impeach tax felons or judicial hacks is when we the people get fed up and start demanding change.

About twenty-five percent of America are brain dead zombies believing Fox and Beck and the rest of those destroying America. Another twenty-five percent know something is wrong with the other side and try to serve as a counter balance to big businesses strangling our government. That’s about an even draw. So whenever our representatives hear anything from us Americans, all they hear is that we can’t make up our minds. According to them, America is split 50/50 on everything.

That’s because half of this country is too lazy to get involved. They’re waiting for someone else to get involved so they don’t have to. Am I talking about you?

Let’s talk about just how corrupt the Supreme Court of the US is.

We’ll start with the tax cheat, Clarance Thomas. Just the fact that his wife makes almost a million dollars a year (bribe money?) working for a think tank funded by multinational corporations and billionaires stinks of bias. Just this fact alone should make any judge resign. There’s no way you can be impartial when you’re owned. Just the fact that you pretend that you’re not biased by this shows your inability to decide anything that is important to our country.

It seems painfully obvious that anyone who is supposed to be able to adjudicate fairly should be completely free from biased involvements. But this case is exactly that. Even Congress has to ask him to recuse himself.

Clarance Thomas was appointed to the court by George H. W. Bush and he later appointed the son, George W. Bush as president in Bush v Gore. The decision was already made before the case was even heard by the justices and Thomas’ wife was soliciting resumes for Bush’s cabinet the night before the case.

But our representatives will only do something about these blatant crooks in our justice system when everyone gets out and starts demanding it. Get out and be heard. Call your representatives and the white house and demand this disease be removed from our Supreme Court.

Information Pollution

Information Pollution

“An informed citizenry is the only true repository of the public will.” Thomas Jefferson

We have multiple posts regarding the emergency caused by the Republicans on the Supreme Court in their attempt to rewrite the constitution (activists judges, they’re called) in the Citizens United v. FEC case. They have made it so that businesses, international corporations, and foreign entities like al Qaeda and the Taliban can spend unlimited money to pollute our elections. The last election was just an example. It was by far the most expensive mid term election in our history and hundreds of millions of dollars was spent on  false propaganda (lies) by corporations around the world and we have no idea who.

All this money slanted the election as money always does.

The University of Maryland has a project that is researching the disinformation in this past election and it is exactly as one would expect. The voters were tragically misinformed. From their research, the following disgusting ignorances were reported.

1. Perceptions of Misleading and False Information – An overwhelming majority of voters said that they encountered misleading or false information in the last election, with a majority saying that this occurred frequently and occurred more frequently than usual.

2. Evidence of Misinformation Among Voters – The poll found strong evidence that voters were substantially misinformed on many of the issues prominent in the election campaign, including the stimulus legislation, the healthcare reform law, TARP, the state of the economy, climate change, campaign contributions by the US Chamber of
Commerce and President Obama’s birthplace. In particular, voters had perceptions about the expert opinion of economists and other scientists that were quite different from actual expert opinion.

3. Variations in Misinformation By Voting Behavior – There were significant differences between those who voted Democratic and Republican in the level of misinformation on various issues that were prominent in the campaign and that respondents said were important in shaping their votes.

4. Variations in Misinformation by Exposure to News Sources Consumers of all sources of media evidenced substantial misinformation, suggesting that false or misleading information is widespread in the general information environment, just as voters say they perceive it to be. In most cases increasing exposure to news sources decreased misinformation; however, for some news sources on some issues, higher levels of exposure increased misinformation.

There is more findings and plenty of detail in the actual document so don’t take my word for it; go out there and find out for yourself.

We Americans need to respect the integrity of our information and start demanding that corporations and so called “think tanks” and so called Fox “news”  quit lying to us. We can’t expect our Democracy to survive if we voters don’t know our hats from a hole in the ground.

More Important Than The President

More Important Than The President

The US government is made up of three separate branches, the president, congress, and the supreme court. The system is supposed to be made up of checks and balances. The primary control was to be the Congress. They have the purse strings and can decide to fund or starve any programs defined by the courts (which should never happen but don’t be surprised) or by the president. That’s a whole lot of power.

Originally, the president was to have very little power. Over time, though, the presidents have been taking more and more power to themselves. GW Bush was the closest we’ve come to a “unitary executive”, or dictator, as Bush would call it.

Still, the courts and Congress have the power to limit the over-reaches of the president. However, the Supreme Court has taken powers to itself that the other branches are unable to easily check and balance. The Supreme Court was not originally intended to be the final word in the land but it says it is and the rest of the country, representatives and voters alike, just ignore the power grab.

Never was it intended by our forefathers that the Supreme Court would be able to make stuff up like it does today. A simple case in point is the Citizen’s United VS the FEC case where the Supreme Court said corporations have the right to flood, absolutely monopolize the media with lies to corrupt elections. Think about that for a moment. Corporations can silence all of us by spending billions of dollars to flood the airwaves so the average multi-millionaire politician is unable to get his word out. Yes, that’s what the Supreme Court has decided.

Absolutely nowhere in the constitution will you find the word “corporation”. In other words, “we the people” are given all the rights except those noted in the constitution and corporations were to have none other than those provided by the individual states.

The premise of our country was “one man one vote” and “one man one voice”. Now, the Supreme Court has decided a case that is contrary to everything the constitution is about and there is nothing within reason that the president and Congress can do. The only solution to this is to either impeach the corrupt (yes, republican) Supreme Court judges or amend the constitution. This case was decided on a purely party line split with the republicans selling you and me down the river.

There have been many many thousands of constitutional amendments proposed but only a very few ever passed. Amending the constitution in an emergency is impossible. Even passing new laws to try to limit the damage caused by the republicans is unlikely to succeed because the court can just take the case and judge it unconstitutional to try to circumvent their damage.

In other words, the Supreme Court has become the dictators of the land and with the absolutely crazy activist republican judges showing nothing but contempt for the constitution and for we the people, our only reasonable choice is to impeach them. It is time to impeach the republican Supreme Court judges, which Congress can do immediately and clean up this mess. Then, given time, we can amend the constitution to say something like, any Supreme Court judge who is found to be as stupid and un-American as these will be drawn and quartered immediately. And, while we’re at it, we can pass an amendment which says, DUH, corporations aren’t people and don’t get rights of people. Well, obviously, we’ll have to clean up the court before we can even consider any other alternatives.

This is an emergency. With each election that we pass following the new court-defined laws, the less control you and I will have over our representatives. Call your representatives today and call the president today and say you want the justices impeached.

Do you get the feeling that we’re losing control of our country? If you paid attention to the recent Supreme Court decisions, you know that they have given corporations the rights of We the People. How twisted! Corporation personhood.

We are supposed to have three equal branches of government, but the Supreme court has decided all by themselves that it doesn’t matter what Congress wants or what the people want or even what the constitution says. They have decided that Corporations should have the same rights as you and me.

Only the worst part is they have said that money is the same a free speech and corporations can spend as much as they want to influence elections.

If corporations can spend unlimited money, then the little amount you and I invest in our representatives will be insignificant compared to the billions of dollars at the disposal of an entire industry.

How did things get so bad? How do we get it back?

The only way to solve this is to remove the personhood of corporations. We need a constitutional amendment saying that businesses are not people. How stupid is that? Why should we need such a silly clarification in our constitution? Everyone knows a business is not a person and our founding fathers didn’t make this country for We the Corporations.

But, alas, the amendment is the only way to clean up years and years of Supreme Court activism. Check out the many organizations that are working to clean up this mess. Check out Move to Amend.

Citizens United vs FEC. Can we fix this in time?

Citizens United vs FEC. Can we fix this in time?

The American people are horrified by this landmark decision by the Republican Supreme Court justices. This is the Dred Scott decision of our day and Americans are united in our opposition.

The Republican judges decided that contrary to our constitution, the rich get a political voice and We The People are silenced. I’ve discussed this corporate giveaway in previous posts.

For those who haven’t been paying attention, this decision equates money with free speech. In other words, corporations and the wealthy can spend any amount they want on deceptive and dishonest ads to influence an election or even a ballot issue. I’m sure many will think that this is just an over reaction, The case couldn’t possibly have been that bad. Well wake up! It’s time to get outraged.

Now the average American gets free speech and he can mumble and whisper to his neighbors and families all he wants or stand on a street corner and holler, but the billionaires can spend unlimited amounts of advertising money to influence public opinion.

If you don’t believe that marketing and advertising really influence opinion, then you’re one of those easy marks. If it didn’t work, there wouldn’t be billions of dollars spent on it every super bowl and then all year long. Some people are easier marks.

How much money was spent to affect the last presidential elections? It was less that $500 million, considerably less. Now, how much was given to the bankers for bonuses? $63 BILLION. In other words, what the bankers make in one year could completely silence all other candidates with just a fraction of their bonus.

Of course, an unethical billionaire businessman would never use his money to get richer at our expense now would he?

But, America is waking up. Believe it or not, we’re beginning to wake up.

This is not a partisan issue, not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue. All across America, people polled show disgust for this ruling. Almost 80% of Americans are against it. Of course, once the billionaires start bombarding us with advertising, those number will drop. But if the major corporations win, we will have given our country to the greedy and been happy doing it.

Had enough? Ready to do something about it? Get involved. There are many many organizations that are uniting to fix this before it’s too late.
