Lost 9 Soldiers in Iraq, Today

by David Schlecht

I’m sorry to say that we lost nine more brave soldiers, today, in Iraq. Nine soldiers die while General Betray-us betrays the American people. Yes, 6 more years. Yes. YES! Oh, God, YES!

Does anyone else find it worrisome that even our military has become so corrupt that they spew the White House propaganda, without a single shred of honesty or impartiality. Doesn’t that seem just a little scary? Will these same Republican operatives, responsible for our military, turn our military against us in a pinch? Does anyone really doubt that it’s exactly what they would do?

What would Hitler do with this power?

Tell me what I want to hear or else

by David Schlecht

Remember Saddam Husein? Yes, that’s the one. The tyrant responsible for all those weapons of mass destruction. Remember him? We all saw the awful things that happened when he would dismiss or behead anyone in his government (or family) who didn’t agree with him. Hitler had the same problem. Eventually he had nobody around him who dared express any reality. Eventually Hitler knew very little about how bad the war really was going, because nobody dared tell him.

In today’s news, “Bush advisers favor current war strategy”. Sound familiar?

Bush has replaced anyone and everyone who is willing to express the folly of the surge or the folly of invading Iraq or the need to prepare for country building, or anything. Now, all that are left for the Hitler administration are the yes-men who refuse to explain to George that Paris isn’t burning.

Why does the Corrupt Corporate Media quote these empty shells? Why do they care? Why should we care what “Bush Advisers” have to say? They’ve been so reliably wrong since the very beginning, the only time we should listen to them is when we want to know what NOT to do.

I’m not saying Bush is Hitler. No, America’s Corrupt Corporate Media would never support that. The American Republican party would never blindly support a closed-minded leader who refused to listen to dissension, or even opposing views.  No, it would never happen here. I’m talking about Bush, here, not Hitler. I wonder if Hitler would have supported 21st century medicine and research over biblical rantings? Maybe we would be better off with Hitler. At least then the conservatives would see what they’re signing up for, not that any of them would refrain from joining the party.

It’s not too late to Impeach, but it may well be too late, soon enough. Why wait?

7 Americans Die in Iraq Today

I’m sorry to report that we have lost another 7 Americans in Iraq, today. Oh my gosh, you can just smell the progress can’t you?

What kind of lies is the White House trying to feed us? Things aren’t improving. It’s a disaster and everyone knows it. There’s no other way to describe it. We had a chance to do this thing right (not that it was ever the right thing to do) if we had planned before invading. An additional 100,000 troops at the beginning may have helped. Getting the country back on its feet right away would have helped. Now it’s too late for these things.

The only solution is to give Iraq a pull-out date and let them do what needs to be done to be prepared to govern their own country.

Bush has made an absolute disaster of everything he has done to this country and now wants to wait for someone else to come along after him and clean it all up. It’s way past time, but it’s never too late to impeach.

Basra Pullout. British Withdrawl Leaves Basra Unprotected

From the NY Times:

The British Army began withdrawing from its last base in Basra’s city center early Monday, a move that will leave Iraq’s second-largest city without foreign forces for the first time since the American-led invasion in 2003.

The pullout came as two of Britain’s most influential generals during the Iraq war delivered scathing attacks on the Americans for their handling of the campaign after Saddam’s defeat.

Will the US Corrupt Conservative Media pick this up? Nah, didn’t think so.

If we know that the Bush administration lies to us about the most important of issues, and the Bush administration controls the news and information about Iraq that comes in to the American media, and the other world media outlets paint a completely different picture of Iraq than Bush does, who are we to believe?

I guess things are going just swimmingly in Iraq.

Light Posting

Hi All,

In case you’re wondering why the postings have been so light this week — I’m out of the area until Friday. But, oh, there’s so much to cover. Al beat me to a response to a Krattenmaker about the bad old securlarists.

14 more of our soldiers have died today, in Iraq. “IT’S NOT A QUAGMIRE!” My heart goes out to the families and friends.

Romney Scrambling to Alter Stock Portfolio After Questionable Dealings Revealed

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is scrambling to change his investments after a Herald report that he holds stock in companies that perform embryonic stem cell research –a practice that clashes with his conversion to an anti-abortion presidential candidate. As he faced questions on the campaign trail yesterday, Romney denied specific knowledge of the stem cell investments, but said he expects his money will be pulled from firms whose work conflicts with his beliefs.

“The trustee of the blind trust has said publicly that he will endeavor to make my investments conform with my positions, and I am confident that he will,” Romney said during a stop in Georgia.

The Herald reported yesterday that Romney, considered a top-tier candidate for the GOP presidential nomination, owns stock in Novo Nordisk and Millipore Corp., which use human embryos to conduct disease research.

Romney, who holds assets worth between $190 million and $250 million, also invests in casino operators, an oil company that does business with Iran and a firm with cash linked to the genocidal Sudanese government.

The Internet TeamRudy Giuliani on Immigration: Rhetoric vs. Reality

Rudy Giuliani talks tough in South Carolina, promising that “we can end illegal immigration. But an aide to one of his rivals leaked a video of the former mayor taking a much more pragmatic stance:

“We’re never ever going to be able to totally control immigration to a country that is as large as ours,” Giuliani said in a speech at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in 1996. “If you were to totally control immigration into the United States…you might very well destroy the economy of the United States because you’d have to inspect everything and everyone in every way possible.” While adding that it’s important to get a better sense of who was coming into the country, Giuliani said “you’re never totally going to control it.”

We Are the Mainstream Media

I’ve caught myself a few times making the mistake of using the framing forced on us by the Corrupt Conservative Media. They like to refer to themselves as the Mainstream Media or the MSM. What a joke!

We, here, in cyberland, are the mainstream media. We still rely on the well-funded corporate corruption to get some of our stories, but then have to do the real research ourselves.

So, what, exactly does representing the 35%ers  do to make them think they’re mainstream? Nothing, obviously. When we say Mainstream Media, we need to start realizing that it is us.

Now, what, exactly makes the Corrupt Corporate Media such a failure? Why are they hemorrhaging from every wrong decision?  Do you think maybe it’s because they keep using the same worn out Conservative apologists, the same old chicken-hawks, the same old disproven arguments? If our authors were wrong as often as the Corrupt Corporate Media journalists, they’d be looking for another venue.

Maybe the Corrupt Corporate Media has an opening.

From the Mouths of Liars

So, if Cheney knew so well exactly what was going to happen when we invaded an unarmed nation which didn’t attack us, why did he tell us the opposite?

Check out this interview with the liar.

So, what exactly changed? Oh, that’s right, Iraq invaded us. Umm, wait, maybe not. Oh, I can’t remember with all the propaganda.

I was amused at a bumper sticker this afternoon. It read, “Freedom Isn’t Free”.

Yes, indeed, our forefathers paid a tremendous price for our freedom. The same freedom we’re letting Bush destroy. However, freedom doesn’t mean invading an unarmed nation. That’s what you call immoral.

When a government gets too invasive, and too secretive, and too demanding of our freedoms, it’s time to pay up and risk our safety to help keep our government under our control. That’s what’s not free. It’s not free because we have to work every day at keeping our country free. We must oppose the forces of the unfree.

Nevada’s Ensign Supports Treasonous Bush Administration

Here’s a reply I received from Ensign regarding the corrupt and criminal Bush White House. Can you really say that this man is this stupid or is he a pathological liar? Obviously, to some, Bush is the second coming of Christ. Here’s his reply:

August 14, 2007 : Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about President Bush and his Administration. I value the opinions of every Nevadan and am grateful for the opportunity to address your concerns. The job of the President is demanding, and this Administration has faced some unique challenges. The circumstances of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the downturn in the economy would present a significant challenge to any leader. In light of these international and domestic conditions surrounding his presidency, I believe President Bush has proven himself to be a leader capable of making difficult decisions and that he has generally been able to rise to the challenges that he has faced. The U.S. economy is healthy, growing, and creating more opportunities every single day. Some of the tax reforms that have passed in the Senate and that the President has signed into law have fueled our economy and driven it to new heights. For example, we created over nine million jobs in the last five years, and there are more Americans working now than ever before in our nation’s history. In addition, tax revenues are at an all-time high. Further, there has not been a single terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11. I believe that the President deserves credit for his leadership on these issues. Over the past five years, we have taken steps to enhance Americans’ safety while respecting our civil liberties. In fact, the United States and our partners have disrupted at least 15 separate, serious al-Qaida terrorist plots. Fortunately, thus far, we have managed to stay ahead of determined, resourceful, and adaptable enemies, but this could not have been accomplished without important programs that allow our intelligence community to access terrorist networks. Allowing wiretapping of suspected terrorists, tracking terrorist financing, and interrogating enemy combatants has yielded credible information resulting in the capture of still more terrorists, the break up of sleeper cells, and the prevention of further attacks. Removing these tools from the men and women fighting to protect our freedoms would only give the terrorists advantages they do not have now to effectively destroy our way of life. We have stayed on the offensive, fighting terrorists in places like Iraq and Afghanistan instead of waiting for them to take the fight to our homes. There are people who have criticized the Administration on spending and the size of the deficit. As a fiscal conservative, I too am concerned with the level of spending, the deficit, and the legacy of debt we are leaving for our children and grandchildren. Some people have blamed the tax cut packages of 2001 and 2003 for the increases in the national debt. It is important to remember that, during debate on these bills, Democrats had similar tax cut plans, but their proposals would have targeted tax cuts toward different policies. Thus, at the time these bills were passed, both Democrats and Republicans agreed that tax cuts were necessary to encourage an economic recovery; however, Republicans preferred to target tax relief toward small business and activities that would drive the economy and help create jobs. Given that tax receipts are at an all-time high, it is clear that Republican policies have helped grow our economy. The real cause of the deficits is the level of federal spending. For example, from 2001 to 2005, federal spending has increased 45%. Given these facts, I hope that you will be pleased to learn that I have been very active in working to improve accountability as to how Washington, D.C., spends your hard-earned money and that I have also worked to reduce unnecessary spending. For example, I, along with several of my Senate colleagues, introduced a measure in February 2006 that would change the Senate rules to help eliminate Congressional earmarks in appropriations bills. As you may know, earmarks have increased significantly over the last several years, and our measure is a necessary step to reduce overall federal spending. I also introduced the Spending Money Accountably to Rebuild After Tragedy (SMART) Act to reign in federal spending to help pay for the costs of rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. I felt that it was important to help the people that were devastated in the Gulf Region but to do so in a way that prioritizes spending rather than adding an additional $120 billion in spending above the level permitted by the budget. Further, I introduced legislation that would create a publicly searchable, online database to bring transparency to the process of federal spending. I was pleased to see legislation similar to mine signed into law by the President on September 26, 2006. Once again, thank you for contacting me on this very important issue. If you should have any further questions or comments or would like to sign up for my monthly newsletter, please feel free to write or e-mail me via my website at Sincerely, JOHN ENSIGN United States Senator

Why hasn’t Nevada done something about this abomination? “Don’t distract me with the facts, right now, I don’t have time to recall the moron, Dancing With The Stars is on!”

Rove Resigning

The Wall Street Journal reports that Karl Rove will be resigning at the end of August.

This may be an improvement for the criminal administration or it may be a forewarning of the hardening of the unitary executive before the coming non-elections, “unexpected” terrorist attack, and martial law. Let’s all hope it won’t come to this.

These may, indeed, be happier days, ahead, for America.

Corrupt Conservative Media Moguls Censoring Political Music

At Crooks & Liars, there’s a very sad and frightening article about Conservative media censorship, alive and well. Check out:

A few days ago, the problem because [sic] crystal clear. AT&T censored political speech over streaming video by Pearl Jam at a concert.

If we don’t fix our media soon, it will be too late. If anyone remembers back in the 60s, there were endless examples of anti-war music on the airwaves. This war, it’s all suppressed. This is not good for America. The only solution is to retake the airwaves. Write letters to your local newspapers, call into talk shows, just get involved.

America is crying to you for help. Do something.

Why the Germans Supported Hitler. Can it Happen Here?

I ran across a most interesting article the other day. It addresses an issue that I’ve often contemplated. Given how America has supported, and continues to support the Bush Administration, and considering how many things they’ve done to harm America and our constitution, one must wonder if Americans wouldn’t do the same as the Germans of the Hitler era.

The article can be found at The Future of Freedom Foundation. It’s titled Why Germans Supported Hitler.

I strongly recommend everyone read this. It’s an important issue, regardless if you’re for Bush or against him. No matter how much you support a leader, the world doesn’t need another Hitler, and letting anyone gather enough power to do this, on this term or the next, is not only foolish, but very dangerous.

Take a moment and go read it.

We are marching down the same course, today!

How Do We Fix the Corrupted Corporate Media?

How do we fix the corrupted corporate media?

It’s funny to think back at the foolish cries of, “Oh that Liberal media.” Oh, how funny. But, it’s far from funny just how damaging the current media corruption is to America.

With rabid right-wing media moguls gobbling up every news outlet they can find, it’s amazing that America is able to get any unbiased news at all. It doesn’t take a genius to know that aggressive, unethical, right-wing business owners will eventually own the “free” press and they will try to further their grasp on power and influence. That’s really a no-brainer. Just look around you.

We used to have anti-trust laws and we used to enforce them. However, we haven’t been up to the task since the Clinton years. This means that the news has been controlled by fewer and fewer conservative business owners and only the most aggressive and unethical survive. Is this really who we want controlling our news? Delivering our facts?

As a simple example, I compared our local Ganet-owned newspaper with the news reported through other news outlets, and found that our newspaper lied, distorted, and hid the news on average, 86% of all political articles on 100% of the days. What kind of a track record is that? Does Ganet control the newspapers in your town? If so, be warned.

Fox news recently won a court case protecting them from liability for mis-labeling their Fox News as news. They have no obligation to deliver the truth or the facts. (It’s time to purge another judge!)

No wonder there are still some fools supporting the Bush Administration. If they had the facts, at least they would be hiding their hatred of America rather than flaunting it. There are numerous right-wing “Lie Tanks” that mimic the Think Tanks of old. Their purpose isn’t to consider the facts but to warp the facts to support an otherwise unsupportable position. A Conservative Position.

Obviously taking the money out of the news business will bring an immediate halt to the consolidation of news ownership. Passing and enforcing a law forbidding monopolization of the news outlets would be a tremendous help.

Requiring equal time for opposing position is the wrong approach. It only requires the news to air stupid faulty reasoning coming from the right-wing think tanks. Let’s say that any news outlet that controls more than 10% of any given market must sell off 20% of their share. This will discourage robber-barons from investing and manipulating our news. There’s no profit in it.

We should also pass a law that says that any news organization that sides with a political party or administration more than 50% of the time is fined out of business. You can have your free speech, but don’t pass the lies off as news.

Yes, that means that this blog will go the way of Fox news, but that’s good for America. Let’s even the playing field and we can all spend time and effort investigating all sides. In the meantime, we need to stop the hemorrhaging. America is dying right in front of us.

Iowa Republicans Choose None of the Above

Iowa Republicans remain skeptical of their Presidential candidates:

King was not surprised to hear about a Washington Post poll Sunday morning showing that only 19 percent of Iowa Republicans are “very satisfied” with their party’s field of presidential candidates, compared with 53 percent of Iowa Democrats who said the same about their party’s choices.

King said the poll accurately reflects feelings among his fellow Republican voters. “They’re just really not engaged with any of the first-tier candidates,” he said.

The apathy reflects the Republican front-runners’ differences on conservative issues, including opposition to abortion and support for limited government and lower taxes, King said.

Ed Hertko, a West Des Moines physician, said he remained undecided after the debate. “Nothing here caused me to pick out one guy and say, ‘Yes, he is the individual.'”

Why Congress has Historically Low Ratings

Oh, my God! For the life of me, I can’t understand why Congress would have taken the president’s side, over the side of America.

Until today, I would never have argued that our elected Congress would place their own selfish interests ahead of those of the country. Every Democrat and Republican who voted to legalize the unconstitutional FISA abuses should be recalled, impeached, removed from office, and publicly disgraced for their unpatriotic behavior.

Obviously, they all fear that the Republicans will call them weak on terrorists if they don’t rape our constitution, just a little.

I’ve had enough! If they refuse to stand up for the American people, then they really are weak and should be removed before they can cause any more harm to this country.

Of course, this needs to come immediately after we remove the root of the problem: the Bush Administration.

I’m outraged!

The Bridges of America’s Counties

We’ve all heard it a hundred times, already, but this is just another proof that America needs to abandon the Conservative Party. Our parents and grandparents came together to build some of the most impressive roads, bridges, Internets, and lots of other pieces to our nation’s infrastructure. We would be just another third world country without our interstate highway system.

However, the Republicans call Americans “Tax and Spend Liberals” because we want to use our tax dollars to make our lives and our nation better. The Conservatives want to cut taxes, neglect our infrastructure, and push America backwards, all for the sake of making the insanely rich, all that much more insanely wealthy.

Take a good look at the carnage in Minnesota caused by neglected infrastructure. Imagine that it’s just the tip of the iceberg as all the rest of our failing infrastructure that used to be paid by taxes is dragging us down to a third world country.

The Demise of the Republican Party

Are we witnessing the demise of the Republican Party, just like the demise of the old Republican Party called the Wigs (Whig) Party? The Whigs were the Republican Party of th 1850s.

Has Bush put the final nail in the coffin of the Conservative Party?

This really is two questions. The Republican Party is struggling for its life and is rejecting the ultra-conservative slash-and-burn philosophy which benefits nobody but the ultra rich. Even the Conservatives are screaming for the removal of the Neo-Conservatives from the ranks. The ultra-conservatives that have taken over the White House is the same party taken over by America’s religious fanatics.

Will the Republican Party be able to get the religious freaks under control while silencing the destrictive force of the slash-and-burn conservatives? If not, it won’t survive.

Too bad, too. A one party system is not good for America.

Are You Ready for Martial Law?

Have you given any thought to what you plan to do after the next terrorist strike?

There’s really no question any more that the Bush Administration bungled big time when they let 9/11 happen. We don’t know if they really wanted it to happen or not. There’s plenty of speculation and evidence to make one wonder.

However, there’s no doubt that nothing has been done to make us any safer. Nothing. But — there has been plenty done to expand the reach of hatred of America. The smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud is really the mushroom cloud of ever expanding American hatred. The number of terrorists has mushroomed since we invaded Iraq.

So, let’s do the math — more terrorists, more hatred, less security. Is someone just waiting for the next attack?

And, when it happens, will Bush declare Martial Law? Of course he would. Why not.

Imagine the awful really happening. Imagine all the right-wing America haters swearing up and down that we need a Hitler to protect us. “Let’s flush our rights and freedoms, quick!” Just like Hitler’s Germany.

And, what will America’s press do? You think it was despicable what they did the first time, just imagine what they’ll do the next time.

And, what will little Georgie do? There really should be no doubt in anyone’s mind.

Are you prepared? If you wait till it happens, it’ll be far too late to stop it.

Remember that America’s Congress is a reactive community. They will only do something about little George if you make it necessary. Otherwise, it is easier for them to just ride it out and hope nothing bad happens.

Are you ready?

Is Impeachment Necessary?

There has been a noticeable increase in the rumblings for impeachment. Yet, you hear all the arguments over and  over about how much worse it could be with Cheney in Charge.  There’s also the “promise” from grandma Pelosi about not pursuing impeachments.

Then, there’s the incoherent right-wing talking point about how nobody the president appoints can be impeached. Of course, just the knowledge that it’s a right-wing talking point makes it pretty much unbelievable so I’ll leave this one for my readers to ponder if they believe it.  But let’s talk about the impeachment of Bush, Cheney, and Gonzales.

There has been an endless stream of crimes coming from the Republican White House, some as grave as treason. Maybe every one of these cases can be shrugged off as just a gross misunderstanding by the press or the people. However, without anyone able to investigate, all we can do is assume guilt. An innocent White House would he expediting the investigations.

So, using this simple litmus test, it’s obvious that something stinks.

Pursuing impeachments will have the right-wing nuts claiming that it’s retribution, reciprocity, and revenge. Maybe we can’t just dismiss every right-wing talking point as a lie, but we sure don’t need to spend much time in serious contemplation. If a crime has been done, America NEEDS to exact fair and reasonable consequences. Failure to do so will destroy this country as any future tyrant will be free to push the limits even further, and not fear the consequences.

Yes, indeed, we need to consider the consequences of our actions, but no action at all will be worse than the worst we can imagine, even with Cheney in charge of the country. Impeachment is necessary for this country to heal. Pardoning or ignoring the transgressions is a sure path to further crimes from future administrations.

We need to stop the nonsense, here, and now. The buck stops with us.

Impeach Bush, Cheney, and Gonzales.
