Fred Thompson: Wanted to ditch divisive Republican platform in 1996

Described as pro-choice It seems Mitt Romney has some competition in the “say-anything-to-get-elected” department. Election central

( Link ) links to a David Brody post ( Link ) which has some choice quotes from lobbyist Fred Thompson in 1996–when he wanted to chuck the national Republican platform.

Thompson wants to change the way the 1996 Republican National Convention is conducted. For starters, he wants to abolish the party platform–just toss the archaic thing away. ‘It’s the most useless device I’ve ever heard of,’ Thompson said during a recent visit to Memphis.”

“Thompson said he opposes making early-term abortions a crime, as some Republicans would like to do with a constitutional amendment. ‘But I don’t think you should bolt on one issue. I’m still not convinced platforms are a good idea. We know what we believe in and I don’t think we need to write it all down in a document,’ Thompson said. The Tennessee Republican, a pro-choice defender in a party with an anti-abortion tilt, is preparing for next week’s convention in San Diego. He said the party must avoid distracting issues and focus on electing Bob Dole as president. ‘We need to concentrate on what brings us together and not what divides us,’ Thompson said in an interview with The Tennessean published Tuesday.

So if Fred Thompson thought in 1996 that the Republican platform is divisive, when did he change his mind? He’s an actor, so was he acting then–or is he acting now?

Giuliani: I Swear They’re Volunteers

Giuliani: I Swear They’re Volunteers … Really Big Volunteers. Rudy
breaks federal campaign law

Giuliani’s campaign spending reports showed no security expenses during the first three months of this year. But the burly guards who trail Giuliani around the country have not been working for free.

For most of this year, Giuliani’s consulting firm, Giuliani Partners, has paid the cost of the security detail — an arrangement that has existed since Giuliani stepped down as New Yorkmayor– campaign spokeswoman Maria Comella said. His campaign travels eventually became so extensive that the campaign began picking up the costs on June 18,
she said .

“It certainly appears to challenge the law, with respect to a corporate contribution,” said Ellen Miller, a longtime campaign finance watchdog in Washington. “A corporation cannot make an in-kind contribution by paying for a service or a party or even food at a party.”

Republicans Snub the NAACP.

Up to nine presidential candidates will take the stage at CoboCenteron Thursday morning to woo the African-American vote. At most, there will be one Republican.

It’s not for lack of an invitation. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People extended invitations to all announced Republican and Democratic candidates two months ago. The national staff of the civil rights organization followed up with phone calls.

But the three leading Republican candidates — U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, the former Massachusettsgovernor and a Michigannative — have all said they won’t come, citing scheduling conflicts.

Cocaine, Pedophelia, and Prostitution! Oh My!

Another key supporter of Republican presidential contender RudyGiuliani suffered an embarrassment when he admitted last night the”serious sin” of at one time calling an escort service accused of beinga prostitute ring.

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), who is Giuliani’s most prominent Southernconservative supporter, was implicated when the so-called “D.C. Madam”disclosed that his telephone number was found among the telephonerecords of the escort service, Pamela Martin and Associates, in a periodbefore he was elected to Senate in 2004.

The Crimes of Home Schooling

Has anyone done any research to see who are all those parents that are doing home schooling? Of the few home schoolers that I know, all have elected to do this to save their children from the evils of a “Progressive School System”, that teaches such evil topics as biology and evolution.

Shouldn’t this be an imprisonable offense? Isn’t this causing irreparable harm to the youth, soon to be new voters, of our country? Shouldn’t these parents be relieved of their parental duties like a parent who refuses medical treatment for their kids for religious reasons?

We have a growing problem that needs to see the light of day.

More Proof of Liberal Media

“Only the far left wing radicals support impeaching Bush and/or Cheney.” Everyone who has ever listened to Fair and Balanced journalism knows this fact. However, when we really look at the numbers, we see that 46% of America’s voters support impeaching Bush (up from 42% last year) and 50% support impeaching Cheney. Only 44% oppose impeaching either Bush or Cheney.

So, why do we hear, daily, that it’s only a far left fringe? Why is the Fair and Balanced Liberal Media so busy lying to us? Well, obviously because they know that there are plenty of conservatives out there who are stupid enough to keep believing them. Fair and Balanced lies are more swill for the Republican base. And the liars continue to say there’s a Liberal Bias. Exactly how stupid can the media get and still keep the Republicans listening? Many Republicans are coming to their senses, but many more will take a whole lot more swill before choking on it.

The Republican corruption has a firm handle on the media. Watch and see how easy it is to get the national media spewing the White House talking points, even when they’re proven to be lies. However, when the Democrats want to educate the voting public, the horrific crimes get glossed over in favor of Paris Hilton or “More Missing White Girls”.

In order to restore reason to our government, we need to clean up our media, and we need to do it now! How about donating to a fledgling progressive radio station? How about the Democratic party getting together and doing something about this?

Government’s Role in Business

There are two important issues closely intertwined in America’s corporate-influenced government – the role of government, and the priorities of a successful business person.

Let’s start with the role of government. Many people seem to forget that there is no “THE government”. There is only “US government”. The government is OUR government. It is the laws and policies that we, the people, have put together to make OUR lives better. We really need to start using the right words, here. There is no “THE government”.

Now, why wouldn’t we want our government regulating the poisons coming out of corporate smokestacks? Of course we do. That’s why we created a government in the first place – to allow us to better protect ourselves.

Beware when you hear a politician saying, THE government. It’s probably a lie that follows.

So, what is the driving principles of the successful entrepreneur? A drive for wealth and power. For the average business man in America, today, morals have to play a very minor role, or the business is doomed to fail at the expense of the more ruthless business. The only way to stay competitive is to sell your soul to the devil.

When we were a small country, this wasn’t quite as true. When businesses got a bad name 100 years ago, they usually went out of business. Today, they go to the marketing companies and come up with a new past.

This makes it impossible for the average customer to know the real history of any business, and sooner or later we all end up buying from companies that are out to do us harm.

Along comes our government. We put laws in place to protect us from unethical business practices and it works for a while. However, sooner or later someone votes for a Republican and we find ourselves where we are today, with our billions of dollars invested in OUR government being stolen right out from under our noses.

We need our government to be strong in order to stem the infection invading our corporations.

Here’s what we need to fix:

1. Remove freedom of speech from corporations.
2. Stop the aristocratic society by increasing the inheritance tax to 99% after the first $1 Million.
3. Quit pussyfooting around with the fines. If it’s a case of harming the communities, the world, or the customers, make the fines serious. 40% of net profits the first occurrence, 40% of gross sales on the second occurrence, and prison terms for all board of directors on the third occurrence. It should never be cheaper to pay the fines than to fix the problem. No more pussyfooting!

Got any other suggestions?

Did Cheney Pardon Libby?

Think Progress brings up an interesting question. Did Cheney Pardon Libby?

Nah, couldn’t possibly be.

Are there no Republican voters out there with enough honor to clean up the mess they’ve made of this country’s government? How about donating to an Impeach Cheney First campaign?

Libby Free

So, let’s see if I get this right. Libby, tried and convicted for obstructing an investigation into treason IN THE WHITE HOUSE, is freed by the White House. Is there no shame in this administration? Is there no honor in the Republican party for not evicting the traitors? Where has American come in the past six years? Where are we headed? I weep for our country.

About

One of the many disgusting mistakes of the Regan era was the Just Say Why campaign. How un-American can you get? We’re not a bunch of sheep. Don’t ever let anyone tell you to just say, No. Just say, Why!

Don't Say No, Just Say Why. You name it, politics, religion, opinion, news, you'll find it here.
